Mapping Intake Plenum Mods (Getting Dynoed)
Hi guys,
E_K and I are scheduled to take a trip this Saturday to Church Automotive dyno shop for a comparative dyno between plenum mods. We'll be running the Crawford V5 against a 1/2" plenum spacer and 3/8" a plenum spacer.
E_K is on a time crunch Saturday but if time allows we will dyno the Kinetix plenum and mabey even a 1/4" plenum spacer.
This should give a total mapping of what plenum mods can do... Results should be interesting.
Tony

I guess it's relatively stock .... I've spent less than $1000 on engine mods.
So far, it's just:
Z-tube
popcharger
crawford V5 plenum
UR crank pulley
with some DIY polishing of the throttle body, plenum, lower plenum, and intake manifold.
exhaust system is totally stock. The car has the same mods as it did when I did that Dyno Day featured in Sport Z Magazine. It made 254 on the dynopak (at the axles, wheels/tires off) in 4th gear (5AT).

for the dyno, would you take off the popcharger and change to stock?
ive found that the popcharger can cause big changes in numbers because of issues with the heat from the engine bay. when we moved the popcharger to an erect position to get more cool air, there was a 10 hp gain...simply by moving the filter head about 8 inches! that thing really sucks up lots of hot air.
also, would you consider doing a dyno with the spacer and the crawford? =) might have some intersting results.

The stock intake would contribute to more consistent results. Other than that, you are relatively stock, so the dynos should show some interesting results.

Chances are, I'm going to still use the popcharger, since this will give us one more data point with my dyno from a few months ago. The results were very close with each other with the 3 separate runs. I had polished a bit more of the lower plenum, and I really want to see if that made a difference compared to my last run. Since it's going to be on the same dyno with the wheels removed, the results should be pretty comparable.
I can't wait to see the results. I've had my G since November and I've installed the Z-tube so far with the K&N drop in. My next mod is going to be the plenum! This seems to be one of the most cost effective of mods for HP gains based on all the posts I've read here! The more I've read, the more hesitant I am about spending hard earned cash for gains that don't seem to be that impressive! It'll be great to see some fact based numbers!

They're Motordyne plenum spacers.
