Motordyne Plenum Spacer Vs Crawford V5

Hi guys,

They're finally here. The dyno and data analysis takes a lot more time an effort than what it would seem. (especially when working 12 hr days)

As mentioned in E_K's previous thread the spacer dyno results are not only good, they're not at all what I expected either.

The test objective was to measure a range of different plenum mods in the most fair and scientificly controlled manner possible.

See E_K's thread for more background:
https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-drivetrain-forced-induction/41897-prelim-dyno-results-hydrazine-s-plenum-spacer.html

The following comparative test results are between a Craford V5 plenum and a stock plenum with a Motordyne 350Z ss 1/4" plenum spacer kit.

In this plot is the Craford V5 dyno results. Two pulls were performed pre ECU reset and two pulls were performed post ECU reset to see what timing map the car was happy with and to see the effect.

It turns out that an ECU reset had little, if any, effect. Results of all CV5 Pre/Post plots were evenly distributed.

After the CV5 was tested and removed from the engine, a stock plenum with a 1/4" spacer was installed and dynoed.

The vehicle was never removed from the dyno. The plenum was switched while still on the dyno to eliminate a host of variables that could only cloud comparative test results.

Same car
Same dyno
Same day
Same engine temperatures
Same ambient temperatures
Same RH
Same tank of gas
Same ECU conditions
...and anything else we could think of.

This is the first pull of each mod immediatly after a ECU reset.

Results of this type were unexpected to say the least

These are the second pull of each.

Once again, the results were unexpected.

In this plot, with all the runs put together, it can be seen that the results are repeatable and consistant.

The MD 1/4" plenum spacer is producing higher gains than a Crawford V5!

Good job on trying to run the experiments as scientifically as possible and for providing plenty of data. I have one question though regarding the spacer. What is to prevent any leakage between the spacer and the plenum? I'm guessing there are gaskets between the two.

What about the A/F ratio? How lean is the engine running with the spacer? Thanks

I'm wondering the same about the A/F.
Nice results overall!
