Clutch Install Issues

Hello everyone,

So my clutch was making a weird noise when i depressed the pedal and i figured it was about time to change my clutch...when i bought the car from Infiniti the previous owner had installed an aftermarket clutch on it and I noticed that the pivot ball that the fork rested on was broken....so I bought this new pivot ball...

http://www.conceptzperformance.com/C...4924.23.42.188

I also purchased a stage 3 F1 clutch kit from ebay along with an XTD flywheel(yea i know i went cheap on a major component)...so basically Im having a slight issue. I installed everything properly, the diaphragm was flat as it should be and installed the fork, new release bearing and hooked the transmission back up...now when i press the clutch pedal it stays down as if there is no pressure at all...there is no air in the clutch line and it almost seems as if the new pivot ball isnt long enough, when the clutch pedal is depressed it moves the slave as well...Also i didnt completely hook everything back up cause i wanted to test the clutch pedal first...i left off the wire harness and some bolts to the transmission but it is secure and positioned...is it possible that the clutch kit isnt for my car? I heard you have to pump the pedal to get the throwout bearing to catch the pressure plate but it seems to no avail...do i have to adjust the master cylinder rod or anything im forgetting? someone please help, any advice would be much appreciated!

What year is your G35? I think I remember seeing a thread where the earlier models, basically 2003, had a different and shorter pivot ball.

I have a 2004, so the pivot ball should be the correct size...unless they gave me a shorter one by accident, but even so would that really cause my throwout bearing to not reach the pressure plate and be forced back?

I'm not familiar with it since I have yet to change out my clutch on the G. I'm guessing that length of the pivot ball would definitely be a big factor why the pressure plate is not pushing the fork and release bearing back....it's either that or your master cylinder.

also check a stamp on the transmission case to see which version of tranmission you have. It's a possibility that you may an earlier version eventhough your car is an 04, or if the previous owner replaced it with an older one for some reason. That's just my guess.

well my sticker is scratched off, the plate on my transmission matches my VIN# and my car was built 07/2003...so i dont know how to find out what transmission i have unless I guess i call the dealer and they can run my VIN# or something, but that would make alot of sense if i had a 2003 transmission which requires a long pivot ball bolt... Thank you for your help man i really appreciate it. I will try the 2003 bolt and see if that works next

hey terry did you use your stock pivot bolt with the aftermarket setup or did you find a new one? im about to upgrade my clutch and ive got the same exact production date so im going to go ahead and assume im going to run into this issue. if you found an aftermarket bolt that you could buy individually, could you point me in that direction? haha , much appreciated!

I did end up finding an upgraded aftermarket one. I think it was from everything350z its been so long though. Just make sure you get the 2003 version cause ours are a little taller.

Thezstore.com has it...they sell a clutch fork upgrade kit that has everything for $88 and it includes the pivot ball. Seems like a good deal.

so i found this kit on the z store, it looks like the one youre referring to but it doesnt say that the pivot ball bolt is included, but im assuming it would be? this is what the site says the kit includes: (1) Solid Clutch Fork
(1) Fork Dust Boot
(1) Pivot Ball
(1) Pivot Ball Washer
(1) Clutch Collar
(1) Clutch Collar Retaining Spring
(1) Clutch Fork Retaining Spring

either way sounds like a good investment while im doing the clutch anyway as i just bought the G and it just rolled 170k...i always go off the assumption that the previous owner has not replaced it to be on the safe side. so i guess if it doesnt include that bolt i could use the stock bolt and just roll with it?
