Engine Ticking Please help !!!
This was with my last G .. It was under warranty so I paid nothing.. they said it was a 1300 job. I had the same sound.. Not sure if that helps but get a opinion from a expert that specializes with shims and buckets in these cars. Its a shitty design in my opinion. GL! the shims and buckets are 26.00 a piece. If this is the case it would be cheaper to repair than replace a whole engine. Its hard to tell from the video.. but get a stethoscope $7.00 at advanced... and see if you can hear it on one side and not the other, then at least you know its coming from the top end. if you feel loss of power then its a bigger deal.
Ill send a video to my tech. all he does is works on these cars.... It sounds like the top end. worst maybe a piston slap or some dammage on the cams. Doesnt sound like rod or bearing. I will get back with you tom. Once I send the video. How many miles on the motor?
I dont feel any engine power loss the car seems to run fine its just that noise . The car is going on 130k miles ! Thanks a lot also
I dont think it has but today i bought a stethoscope and when i was moving it around everything sounded the same but when i put it on the fuel rail and injectors it was really loud but i just changed my injectors about 3 weeks ago
Ok i finally took the motor apart now i am getting familiar with the parts are the shims the shiny plastic caps overtop the spring ? Or at those the lifters?
Shims is not the proper term for valve bucket/cam followers.
So why does it say remove the valve lifters in the service manual?
I stand corrected, FSM does call them lifters. Aftermarket generally refers to OHC setups as cam followers.
The rest is still correct, no shims but LIFTERS. I need to review the FSM again its been 3 years since doing any top end maintenance.
If you decide to go with aftermarket Lifters (cam followers) than Supertech are better priced than OEM.
