Engine clicking noise - Possible lifter issue

Hi everyone

I'm having an issue with a clicking sound coming from the engine. I have been told its a faulty lifter. I know that this issue has been discussed before on the forums, so I thought I would come to the experts for advice. Here are the details:

2004 G35 coupe, 6MT, approximately 74K miles, no prior engine issues
Clicking noise has been persistent for some time now. Subtle at first, now noticeably louder.
Regular oil changes @ 3000 miles. I've been using 5W 30 Mobil 1 Full Synthetic for the last three years. Last oil change a week before taking it to the shop. Just switched to Castrol Synthec 0W 30.

My local shop just quoted me $1800 to replace the faulty lifter. $800 for parts, $1000 for labor.

Can anyone tell me if this is reasonable or if there are any other suggestions? Any input is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

What parts do they plan on replacing? They are probably wanting to replace the timing chain and all related components, at 74K miles I'm not so sure if you're due for those items. Post back with what exactly they plan to replace.

Labor is a different story, if they are going by book time on lifter replacement there is little you can do but bend over....
