Replace rev up engine with non rev?
Replace rev up engine with non rev?
To make a long story short I have an 05 rev up 6mt and need a new engine. I just picked up an 04 6mt engine on Sat. cus it was a great deal but didn't know they weren't exactly interchangeable. I have tried to search multiple forums but so far I've only seen one thread that mentioned something about getting an ECU program to disable some security feature.
Is there anyone that knows exactly what I'd need to do to get this engine running in my car? Or am I better off just trying to sell this motor and buy a rev up?
Also what other engines will fit and plug right up? Because I found a guy who's selling a 08 M35 engine which I know is an HR motor but I read a thread of someone claiming they installed one on a G35.

I can't tell you exactly what it is that needs to be done but yes my understanding is that at the very least the ECU will need to be replaced... I don't think you can just reprogram it. You'd need a non-rev ECU-
But frankly, that is a REALLY bad play and is a substantial downgrade. I heard it all when I was going FI and that the engines are very similar but they're not similar in all of the ways that are important.
I'm not sure if you're a power user or not, or have any aspirations to do substantial power modification in the future... but either way- own the fact that you didn't do your research when you jumped on this good deal, flip that motor (maybe make a few bucks while you're at it) and hunt down the appropriate engine.
