Horrible gas mileage after ECU reset

I reset my ECU when I acquired my car, and before I did the screen read 19.7 average. I reset it last month and have driving 1500 miles and it's averaging 16.5.

What gives?

Lead foot haha

Does your car rev ok at idle? If not, then you might have to do the idle reset again

It also has a lot to do with driving conditions. Our cars have a huge city vs highway fuel economy disparity.

I drive like a bitch, so lead foot definitely isn't the problem LMAO. My car rarely goes over 3k. My cars just fine at idle, about 600 RPM. Other than that I'm in typical city traffic. Nothing too crazy.

Only real way to gauge fuel economy is to divide miles driven by gallons put in at fill. Computers are not that accurate.

I thought about that so last time I filled up I reset my trip. Still waiting to go through the tank. I'll post results afterwards.

I figured that was it, but why a 3mpg drop after the reset? That's what puzzles me.

Your ECU is going to need some time to adjust to your driving habits. Simply resetting the ECU will not guarantee better MPG.
