Vortech V-2 or V-3 Si Trim?
Vortech V-2 or V-3 Si Trim?
Hey guys,
In the middle of getting my engine rebuilt right now at stock compression ratio with forged parts. Not going the turbo route do to logistical issues....so supercharger is the only route for me. Looking at going with Vortech supercharger and was told by I should go with the V-2 if I want to get big power. Does this sound correct?
From what I've read the only real difference is the V-2 is tapped and V-3 is self contained. I was leaning toward the V-3, but how difficult is it to change the oil and does it need its own oil pump? Thanks.

There are pros and cons to both systems...The V2 is harder to install since its requires tapping into the oil pan, but in long run it's easier to maintain since it just uses engine oil. The V3 is easy initally since there is no tapping of the oil pan needed, but in the long run more maintenance is required...
I can't comment of the difficulty of maintaning the V3, but I'm glad I have a V2...

Thanks for your reply 350z006. As you know, I'm going FI since I just bought the Uprev MAF from you a while back. As common as a vortech is for most people, I've never heard one or seen one on a G or a Z. I lived overseas since 04 and I've had my G coupe since then as well... so I want to do everything right the first time. I'm already going to get hit with a massive labor bill due to being in the UK and everything I pay for is in British pounds. Therefore, any help from any of you Vortech owners out there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Just install it yourself!
It tooks me 2 days doing it all by myself (including injectors, fuel pump, etc) The Vortech kit is one of the easier kits to install...

The V3 is very easy to maintain. There's a drain line that comes out of the bottom of the blower that you can route to a hole in your undertray. Just crack open the bolt on the end to drain the unit. Then you just squirt new fluid/lubricant into the filler hole on the top of the blower.
I have the V2 and no complaints. Only thing is you want to really keep on top of your oil changes as your oil will get dirty faster with the supercharger. If you are worried about price you could probably get a V2 cheaper as it has been around longer.

A V2-T Trim is going to get you a little more power than a V-3 Si and is only about a $500 difference new with an upgraded intercooler. Talk to the guys at Assaultech for current pricing info. That's most likely the route I'll be going since I tend to change my oil almost monthly (stupid oil consumption, lol). If you don't mind the oil changing more often I can't see any other reason not to. Tapping the pan really isn't that difficult in the grand scheme of a super charger install.
