Angry SES light but supposedly no code??

Hi all this is my first time making a thread here im usually reading and searching through threads for answers but looks like this time i couldn't find an answer!! Apologiez if placed in the wrong section.

My 03 g35 sedan over heated on me about a week ago. I pulled over as soon as the light came on and noticed that the temp was sky high. The coolant resevior had boiling fluid splashing inside of it. In the end I ended up having to tow the car back to my mechanic where I needed a new radiator, thermostate, and water pump. Car drove fine for about three days normal driving nothing crazy!

I was on my way home yesturday and the SES light came on. I pulled into an autozone so they could pull the code and nothing came up on their scanner. Car doesn't lag nor does it drive any different than before. I did notice it does take longer than it did before to warm up to operating temp but it doesn't stray from that position under any driving conditions.

I'm going to try and get another reading to see if maybe it was their scanner that couldn't pull a code. Is there a such thing as not having a code but the ses light coming on? Any insight would be great!

Hmmm that's weird. I've seen codes pop up w/o triggering the light but not the other way around. Maybe their scanner was faulty who knows. I'd try another auto parts store to see if they can pull one.

Glad your car appears to be running correctly.

Thanks for the reply it was there scanner. Other autozone I went to pulled out a big ol scanner lol. Turns out the thermostat that was initionally installed by pep boys was only a housing no internals which explaines why my car took forevery to reach operating temps. After my mechanics swapped it out it began overheating again. He swapped the fan clutch as a last resort to check head gaskets. And so far so good!

My question now is how long would you guys say I would have before having any head gasket issues and are there signs to look out for. Especially since my entire cooling system is practically brand new now lol
