My impressions of the NWP 75mm Throttle Body Kit

Ok so there are now a few threads discussing this mod and I'd like to share my initial experience with it. First of all the service out of NWP has been above expectations. My kit was originally shipped to the wrong address and Aaron Kimball over there was gracious enough to track it down and re-ship it to my house. He e-mailed me nearly every day with updates on it's progress and made sure I was a happy camper. It arrived packaged very securely, double-boxed and contained everything I needed for the plug-and-play install. I also got a few stickers, a koozie, and a bottle opener which were nice little unexpected surprises.

Out of the box the instructions were very detailed however if you work on your car they are pretty much unnecessary. I unhooked the battery, removed the old TB and re-installed everything in the kit which included the new TB, the adapter plate, the pigtail which linked the new TB to the OEM plug and a gasket to put between the TB and the adapter plate. Total time took about 20 minutes which could have gone by faster but I wanted to go slow and steady. Buttoned everything up and started the car expecting to have to go through the variety of resets for the new unit. They weren't needed!!! Car idled right at 650 rpms like it did with the stock TB and I took it for a spirited little drive to see if I could tell a difference.

Throttle response seemed to be quicker and smoother but that could all be in my imagination. However, the car made more power above 5000 RPMs according to my butt dyno and was a little quicker up there than before. I banged the rev limiter on the 1-2 shift in MM the first time I got on it, went from 5K to redline a little quicker than I had anticipated. So for the haters, I've had my car long enough to know every inch of it and this thing works as advertised. I'll get a re-flash when I have time to see if there were any gains on paper but overall I'm very happy with the purchase. AND I have a polished TB for sale if anyone wants one, polished by the man, Sean, himself. Shoot me a PM with interest and I'm about to post an official for sale thread in the MP.

The NWP piece just looks cool as well:

Thanks to Aaron and everyone at NWP, you've made me a happy man this morning!!

Thanks for the review!
In for your mpg results after you start driving it normal again (Yes, you will probably drive hard for the first few weeks!)

Do you plan on having Osiris tune or a retune if you already have one?

I am considering a new TB at 104k miles and this may be what I need!

so this kit is a oem tb replacement with a spacer?. also could the improved response be mostly due to a new clean tb?

James there are a couple of dynos over on My350 but the attitudes over there are mixed. The chart I looked at had 12-15hp gains above 5000K.

Stock TB is 70mm so this one pumps more air into the plenum. After a second trip this afternoon I can definitively say the throttle response is quicker and smoother and the power gain can be felt. Gas mileage comparisons will come this week when I take an out of town trip and after I get over pushing the motor hard while testing this thing out.

Thank you for posting this review as requested. Please do not get a dyno as people will only see the midrange loss as the ultimate downfall of this modification. I have had a lot more fun with WOT lately and may consider this. Price isn't bad.

This is a far fetched, non-thermodynamically backed statement, as more flow does not always = more power:

5mm is almost 1/5 of an inch. 5/16" is about 1/4 of an inch. Plenum spacer is a very small increase in space for a massive increase in WOT horses. Shouldn't the NWP spacer follow suit to Nissan's great intake restriction?

PS... Soon to come, "I picked the wrong day to set down the pipe, TB Edition."

not to bag on auto drivers but it sure seems like those who drive autos seem to be extra sensitive to mods or it is just me whys that?. ie the ztube mod. some auto drivers claim to feel this and that but when I installed it I felt nothing lol

Because your granny shifting, not double clutching like you should...

And I know for a fact my intakes made a very noticeable difference on my auto

Butt dynos are pretty convincing if you've owned the car for many years now
He's been on the forum long enough that I trust

My personal experience:

oem exh-> Nismo S tune; I easily felt gains
Amuse Exhaust -> Nismo S tune; I felt loss
HR Y pipe -> JIC Y Pipe; almost felt nothing
HR Y pipe -> XYZ pipe; I felt gains
Throttle BodySpacer - No gains but cool sound

They actually all reflected when I had my car Osiris dyno retune.

Sounds subjective but if you've owned the car for 6 years now and drive it 40 miles a day like me, you'll know
