Choosing an Air Intake

Hi guys,

Im looking for an intake to be installed on my G35 sedan. Right now, I am really confused on choosing the number of available brand. However, I have 2 brands in my mind:

1) Nismo
2) Injen

What do you guys think? Is nismo or Injen better? Also where can I get the best price for the intake?

Thank you guys,
Albert

Ps: I'm buying 2 of the intakes. One for my G35 sedan and the other for my friend's 350Z. I'm looking for them. So, if you guys think you got the best prices, mayb u can PM me.

The CAI really won't help with HP numbers on a G. I had the Injen on my sedan and the sound was really nice. A nice growl at WOT with a hiss that sounded almost like a turbo blow-off valve. I removed the Injen and replaced it with the Z-tube and K&N filter. Not as aggressive a sound, but nice all the same.

So which do you prefer personally? The injen or the Z-tube with the K&N filter?

There's a ton of info on this forum, but in short:

Injen - cheaper of the two
Nismo - a little more expensive but it adds the bypass valve.

I agree. I have the Stillen and the Z-Tube. Nothing wrong with this setup, but if I had to do it again I would just get the Z-Tube and K&N panel filter in my stock intake box. The aftermarket intakes are just not worth the money, and they increase upper end performance at the sacrifice of low end.

Get the Injen is looks better then any other CAI out there. And you can always change it to short ram was it rains and during the summer you can make it Cold Air. I have a Coupe and that is what i have. You will love the Injen Intake !!

The Nismo Intake I have isn't worth it, IMO. No real power increases, and they are a pain to clean (and they have to be done fairly frequently in my experience).

Some of the stuff that goes for accepted knowledge isn't really true either, like the "lengths are tuned to harmonically increase the flow of air", etc. I spoke with a fluid synamics engineer who laughed when I told him this statement. He said that the harmonics vary with the air density (temp), RPM of the engine, etc., etc. He said that it may be true in limited test conditions (if they are done at all), but would be a minimal if any effect in real street conditions, and certainly depends on throttle opening, and RPMs, etc.

Do it for looks, or bragging rights. but don't expect much if the OEM intake isn't restrictive to begin with. Just because it looks like it should do something, doesn't mean it will. Just because a mod doesn't look like it will work, doesn't mean it won't (Plenum spacers, etc.)
