In spring 2013 I bought a used 2008 G35x (AT), 62k miles when I got it, 72k miles now.

Infiniti recommends the transmission fluid be replaced every 30k miles (exact verbiage is: "Replace automatic transmission fluid" -- I assume they mean a drain/refill, not a flush)

Service records do not show that the previous owner did any tranny fluid replacement, and I also doublechecked this with the local Infiniti dealer, where the previous owner seemed to diligently take their car for the necessary regular service.

I have no current issues that suggest I have a problem with the fluid that I need to address (no burnt smell, etc).

So, my question is: should I go ahead and start regularly doing the tranny fluid replacement, or should I leave well enough alone for now ?

Yes I say go ahead and do it, 72k isn't a lot of miles. I did mine at 172k and everything was fine, now have 223k and it's still going strong.

 

Good point. Checking again, I was looking under the "Premium Service" recommendation list, which says to replace, no caveats. However, under the "Schedule 1 and 2" service level list, it does have a note to "replace, not just inspect", if towing a trailer.

So, it seems to me that the replace should be done only if a) you are towing or b) if you believe the "Premium" level service recommendations have merit.

I don't tow, and am a bit more conscious of cost/benefit than that, so I will stick with the "inspect" for now.

ive always felt that the premium service is a super precaution maintenance like if ur super paranoid. also a way for the dealerships to make money lol. that's jus my imo

 

What is cheaper oil or replacement of a transmission?
If your NOT sure. Have it replaced.

yes replace for peace of mind. so u can start your own record keeping but I would not change it every 30k miles after that.

 

Drain and fill is pretty simple to complete. If you can change engine oil you can do the drain and fill in half an hour.

just a quick question can i use an aftermarket auto tran fluid like redline etc or should i go with nissan?
@ 120k right now. and the last time i did a drain & fill was @ nissan around 80K
