Question 6MT: 3rd Gear Whine?

Hey guys,

I've noticed a whine type sound, similar to maybe a supercharger, between 1k to 3k rpm in 3rd gear. The windows have to be up and music low or off to hear it. After 3k rpm its no longer noticeable. And this only happens in 3rd gear. The fluid hasn't been changed in awhile. The shifter shifts fine. I'm not sure what it could be? It sounds similar to a belt noise, but that went along with engine sound. This is specifically 3rd gear between 1k to 3k rpms, while in gear driving.

Help, thanks.

The synchros are whining. Rebuild time when it continues to get worse.
