Tomorrow will be 3 months of ownership for me, so it looks like I drive 30K miles/yr rather than the 36K I thought. Means that I'll hit my 7500 mile ODI in about 3 months.

I'll be performing an oil analysis then and will let the board know how well Mobil1 lasts (or doesn't) in the G.

Man that's a lot of miles. I've had my car since last August and have 5900 miles. Granted my everyday commute is just 17 miles round-trip. [img]/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/img] I guess you enjoy driving (alot).

 

im going to useing that oil soon also. i have 2548 miles on my G useing the factory oil. i got my car january 31st. i think im going to change the oil at 3k miles. ill let you know how it goes also.

 

It's been recommended to me to use 10W-30 rather than 5W-30, the reason being that in Florida, the lower viscousity is not neccessary. I had already bought the oil though, so I stuck with the 5W-30. I'm also using a Purolator premium plus oil filter, had bought that one too before I decided to go with WIX/ NAPA Gold oil filters.

I changed the original factory fill at 1100 miles with GTX, then again at 4000 miles, GTX again. I did 2 conventional oil changes because there's a "myth" that one should not switch to synthetic too soon; I couldn't find evidence to prove or disprove this statement one way or the other, so I just switched over when I felt comfortable.

do you think i should put in the 10w30?
im going to change mine in about 400miles=about two weeks

a friend of mine said he uses 10w40 down here in his volvo.

 

I'm in Charlotte, NC and the Infiniti dealer uses 10w-30.

 

i checked the manual, and it recommends 5w30 for sub-zero temps and 10w30 above that... sorry about the lower case, 5week old son in left arm. if you're brave enough, there's abunch of oil tech-heads over at bobistheoilguy.com who blow your mind with their knowledge of oil. there's also a long term oil test currently going on using mobil and others...i believe they're up tp 8000 miles or more on the mobil1 fill. the oil chat had me hooked for about 3 months, after that i had enough, but i do check back from time to time.

in fact there's a long term oil change and analysis spreadsheet from maxima.org that i found linked to a thread over there. if you visit, be careful, it's addictive.
