Well I was driving down this street while talking to my wife(on the phone). The water was getting pretty deep pretty quickly from what I could tell, and about 10ft. from getting to higher ground the engine shut down. Every other car drove around me, including little Civic's and such. So I sat in my car for about 45 minutes waiting for a tow truck to come and pull me out. By the time the tow truck got there, the water had pretty much run out of where I had been stranded. Now the car is sitting at the dealership waiting to be checked out on Monday. Worst case, the engine needs to be replaced and hope that the insurance covers it. If not, it will be about $11,000.00 for the replacement. In the mean time, they did give me an '05 sedan for the loaner (only 414 miles on it when I drove off the lot.), with an empty tank. Hope this doesn't take too long. On a good note, I'll have a '05 motor in the car.

You can turn your Injen CAI into a short ram intake during the winter so you have nothing to worry about. That is what i did to my car.

it isnt the injen intake...its all cold air intakes...the answer, BYPASS VALVE...a little saucer looking thing made by AEM to go in the middle of the intake pipe, makes the hydrolocking problem WORRY FREE...just ordered a CAI and the bypass valve because I am not going to sacrifice my $11,000 for 10 hp...GET IT...ONLY 50 BUCKS...WORRY FREE

How deep was the water you drove into? Did it submerge the cone filter?

I'mnot sure exactly how deep it was, but when a couple of cars drove around me after it stalled, I could hear the water hitting below the car. By the time the first tow truck came and pulled me out, the water had gone down a bit. But it was still at the lower half of his shin. Shushmaster, while I was at Riverside Infiniti, I saw that they had a coupe on display in the showroom. It just happened to have an AEM CAI, I didn't see a bypass valve though. And I also saw a display case with headers and all sorts of other aftermarket goodies.

Don't believe the bypass valve is going to make your car worry free. You will loose HP with that thing installed. You might as well not change your intake if you want worry free operation.

Good news guys. I talked to Riverside Infiniti today. I was told that they pulled the spark plugs and attempted to crank the engine. When they did, all six cylinders blew water. They've been running the car and testing it, all is running smooth last I heard. They also said that they are going to do a compression test to make sure that all the cylinders are fine. So with fingers crossed, I'll be able to pick up my car soon. Oh! They also told me to go ahead and let my insurance know just in case something happens later, I have record of it.

Later,

Ray

Sorry to hear about your probs, hope it works out.

Yet another reason why the stock airbox/ztube + K&N is the best setup!

the AEM doesnt come with a bypass valve it is a separate buy...and no, you don't lose power because wen it is dry the foam is out and it is just like a completely straight through tube, but as soon as water gets in there the foam immediately puffs up and blocks water going through the tube, thats wen it might lose power, but maybe for 2 seconds
