Catalytic Converter Replacement Options
Catalytic Converter Replacement Options
Hi all,
Infiniti G35x Sedan 2007
I live in Ontario where there are pretty strict environment laws I guess. I've got one catalytic converter malfunctioning. My mechanic told me I need to replace it ASAP with the original one. The original one at Infiniti dealership costs $1300. I called to the local parts store and they told me that they have third-party ones in stock: one universal converter(which is compatible with most of the cars) and one specifically for my model. Both cost around $800. I'm not sure if they are high flow or not. When I told my mechanic about that option he rejected it saying that original one is the best option. From other guys I heard that it's better to replace with high flow. There are absolutely no option to buy after-market for my model in Toronto. I can't say I floor gas pedal every time I drive, but I like to do so once in a while.
Can you suggest, what is the best option for me (price\quality and I'm required to have SES light go off, otherwise I won't pass emission test here in Ontario). If it's third party high flow could you suggest maybe a brand name and/or a store where I can buy it which will be compatible, reliable, cheaper than the original, meet the emission requirements and will turn SES light off? If I get high flow, will I have to replace both of them or just the one which is broken?
Thanks,
Alex
