So I was having an issue with a high idle and was spaying throttle body cleaner around my entire intake mani, found the air leak, and the idle came down but was still alittle high, so continued to spray for leaks. Took apart my manifold cleaned it and put new gaskets upper and lower on, and put everything back together. Took a test drive and came back and as soon as I got out of the car I smelled a chemically burnt rubber smell. And no there are no bags on exhaust, have brand new belts which are adjusted to Nissan specs, all pulleys spin, none of my wastegate lines are on the turbo, turbo mani, or downpipe, no coolant line on anything either and no fluid leaks of any kind. Here is the funny part the smell isnt coming from the front of the engine, the passenger side the tire wells, or the rear driver side its not a brake smell which is a completely different smell ; it seems to be coming from a 4 in section of the intake manifold starting from the oil fill neck to the 2nd bolt on the side. It seems like it could be coming from under the upper part down from around the injectors or the inner side of the valve cover gasket. There is no smell when the car in cold till it heats up. The car is running fine other than the slight high idle which we have traced to the tune being too rich. Im thinking that the TB cleaner has caused something rubber to change chemically and now smells when it gets hot, but the cleaner should be safe for vacuum line. No smell, used whole can of TB looking for leaks, drove car, smelled like burnt rubber with a slight chemical trace.

Anyone ever had this that wasnt something obvious like a shopping bag.

Thanks. I am going to put it up in the air cause I have noticed the smell is really strong when the fans kick on and you can smell in coming from under the car after the door but cant smell in while standing in front of the car or on the sides.
