As far as I've read, that's irrelevant. Its the mileage.

Its the Oil that causes the friction . That's what the V stands for, Viscous
Then, what wears out?

So youd have to get a new diff to replace it then?

I'm not sure what excactly wears, thats what i'm trying to find ,...but i Do know there is no Plate to Plate contact .
I'm not even sure yet if it's my VLSD that is causing the Right Wheel Tire wear, but it is a possibility?

I went to youtube and watched the VLSD vids. The plated may not touch, but with only a thin film of synthetic oil between them the plates do wear. The oil goes bad and you have an open diff.

At least that's what I think happens. I don't know if you can get a rebuilt unit and change them out.

Called Infiniti , the Diff Oil can be changed .

Edit : just learned the VSLD is a Sealed Unit Within the Diff

Diff oil is not related to VLSD oil though. It's like your transmission oil and your engine oil. Internally connected but not sharing liquids (hopefully :})

I didn't know that until yesterday, if the "plates" don't wear, then the only thing that goes bad is the synthetic fluid, can that be changed?

my understand is that's where the term viscous comes from. has to do with the oil used to get the lsd to kick in when it reaches the right viscosity or some **** like that. but that's all I kno lol

That's the one I watched. Yet, still no clue as to what "wears out". ...

the magical liquid wears and loses its ability to turn the plates. that how I understood it. wat I don't get is why this liquid wouldn't last longer or be replaceable

the liquid only works through thermal expansion and given that there's no way for outside particles to enter the LSD, either heat breaks down the thermal capabilites of the fluid or the discs themselves wear out. It's one of the two, which one, I'm not sure. Either way, the stock unit is crap and you can't depend on it too much for traction brand new or not.

I'm pretty sure I remember that its both actually. The plates wear and contaminate the viscous liquid which reduces its capability to do its job by like 90%. A worn unit still acts SOMEWHAT as a locking unit, but for the most part its an open diff.

Its basically garbage to get people in the car make them think they have posi, but then as soon as you're excited to use it, its useless. I'm gonna search for a true LSD real quick.

EDIT: quick google search doesn't turn up much in the way of a true 2-way mechanical LSD. That kinda sucks. Why doesn't anyone make a conversion kit? That would be one of the best (and most dangerous if your a bad driver) upgrades ever. Haha
