starting issue
This morning, I pushed the clutch in and pressed start. Crank crank crank crank, slight catch, RPM zero, service engine soon. Repeated a few more times, but the engine wasn't showing signs of catching. I went inside and read some stuff on G35driver. Nothing really jumped out at me while searching. Ok, so we all know that engine needs fuel, air, spark, and now ECM/timing/security system. I hoped it wasn't a fuel pump! I checked the air filters. They need to be changed. I checked fuses behind the battery, and they were ok. I put key fob into the slot to make sure the security system fully recognized it. I tried to start the engine again. Multiple cranking but no start. On my last attempt, I removed both air filters and tried to start the car again. Crank crank crank crank crank ka-chug ka-chug vroom! Lots of smoke behind the engine at first, idle was at 2k, and then the idle returned to normal. Thank goodness.
The computer probably primes the engine at each start attempt. Eventually, all the failed starts flooded the engine. Ok, so I need to buy new air filters asap. I'll probably clean the MAF sensors too. Just remove two screws, pull sensor out, spray gently with cleaner, and re-install. Right?
