Engine swap

Ok so I have an 04 g35 thata I'm looking to replace the engine soon with a 05 350z engine. The 350z is auto and my g is manual and wanted to know if I drop the motor into my g will bolt up no problem. As far as harness and ecu will I need that from a manual 05 g or z since it is a Rev up engine or will my original harness and ecu work ?

From my understanding there are 3 engines
The first VQ35DE, the 'rev up' I think and then the VQ35HR (high rev).
Identifying them:
The first has variable valve timing on only the intake cam, you can see the lump on the front timing cover.
The second (rev up) has variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust cams.
The third HR engine has variable valve timing on both and also duel air intakes.

You can't use a rev up in place of the non rev up engine as your harness will not have connections for the extra solonoids used to control the exhaust camshaft variable stuff. I imagine if you had the harness from the rev up and the ecu then you should be able to make something work.

Besides that, why are you replacing the engine?

My engine sucked water and a managed to save it but it's having a real bad miss fire now and when I scan it it says random misfire so Im just preparing for the worst if I have to replace the engine I want to know what all I can use.

Does anybody have more info? I have an 04 coupe and also hydrolocked my engine without a cold air intake and I'll be buying a new engine next week. My mechanic says he can't find any engines and the only one that will work has to be the same production date, same transmission type, and same coupe body.

Does anybody know how true that is? Several shops told me the same thing. I don't want to go ahead and buy a 350z engine or an 03/04 g35 sedan engine and it ends up not being a direct bolt up. From what I've read the motors will work but is there any extra work involved? I don't want him to end up charging me extra.

Any confirmation would be appreciated but pls no guesses.

Yes. 05 350 auto and 04 g35 6mt are the exact same engine. Direct swap.

03/4 all cars are the same
05/6 AT are the same as all 03/4
05/6/7 coupe MT are revup
05/6 sedan MT are revup
05/6 MT Zs are revup
07/8 sedan/Z MT/AT are HR

Ideally you want to buy an engine from a vehicle with an automatic transmission RWD because they will have the least amount of wear and tear. Aside from the pilot bushing needing to be switched to a manual one, it will work out just fine.
