2003 G35 VQ35DE Engine rattles when it floats around 2200 RPM. No noise when loaded, accelerating, and decelerating. Mileage unknown, odometer indicates 190k but previous owner said engine was replaced. I just hope it is not a main bearing.

 

Does the car have stock dual mass flywheel? My car had a single mass and would get a chatter noise around there without load and when taking off from a stop.

Get someone to hold the car at 2200 and then put your hand on the cam gear cover to see if the rattle is there. I'm finding more and more people reporting this problem. Had the same issue on the VG30DE's
