2003 G35 Sedan motor to 2004 G35 Coupe

Hey guys, I have my 04 G35 coupe 6mt with blown headgaskets. I have found a wrecked 03 G35 Sedan Auto that has a good motor. Will there be anything different on the 03 motor that I will need to worry about when swapping? Or will it simply be plug and play?

Plug and Play, keep your intake, fuel rails, injectors, coil packs, etc and just swap the long block. The only differences in the motor were possibly some baffles in the oil pan.

EDIT: Also keep your cam/crank sensors and cam actuators (install new o-rings) since you know they're working. I would HIGHLY recommend installing a new knock sensor (top of the engine under the intake) since you're going to have it accessible anyways, only use a new OEM one from Nissan/Infiniti.

Just so I'm understanding you, those motors will interchange exactly? But your saying to keep all of the parts you listed off my old motor just in case they go bad on my new motor?

Also, I did notice one difference in the motors was the 03 used a fan clutch for cooling and my 04 used electric fans. Will I just not install the fan clutch when I do the swap?

No you will keep the cooling system from your existing vehicle, the reason I say to keep the sensor array is you know everything on your vehicle was currently working. You don't know what the condition of the sensors and injectors/coils were on the donor vehicle. It just saves time troubleshooting any issues that might arise on initial startup.

The early '03 had a mechanical cooling fan and an electrical auxilliary fan for the AC, the later '03 and up had dual electrical fans but they're still both VQ35DE non-rev up motors. Non-revup g35 (short block is the same on revup) or 350z is a direct fit (don't accidently buy a VQ35HR, it's different).

The '03 and newer motors even have the provision in place for the mechanical fan, some folks delete the pulley just to remove something that isn't even being used anymore.

Ok I'm actually buying the whole wrecked car, so fortunately the donor car the motor is in currently runs and drives so I can drive the car and test everything out. One other question I had is the donor car is a 03 auto car and my car is a 04 6mt, will I have any issues mating the trans together? Have to change the flex plate from the donor motor to the flywheel off of my original motor is all?

Yep, just take the flex/flywheel/torque converter off the donor and install your stuff. The bolts are accessible by removing a little access window from the middle bottom of the oil pan.

What about the ECU's, will I need to swap ECUs for any reason?

Nope, ECU stays in the car. You will need to do the recalibration steps here when you're finished.
