Synthetic vs. Conventional
Synthetic vs. Conventional
I drive a 2004 Infiniti G35 and use synthetic oil. It burns a quart per 1,000 miles. This is rather expensive. If I switch back to conventional, will it burn less oil?
Short story YES, conventional is a larger molecule so it's harder to squeeze past work components.
Long story, words words, scientific theory with opintion, Google or search for posts here, debate ensues.

I have the same exact problem.
Next month in switching to conventional oil

Given the small sample size for nearly every oil and knowing absolutely NOTHING about each engine, including existing wear and driving conditions I would put zero stock into that thread.
Gary, for as much as you are an advocate for OEM specs, it's funny that you won't use conventional even tho the VQ was designed to run on conventional. Nothing to do with cooler/cleaner, but more likely to do with valve clearances. It's no coincidence that everyone using synthetic has noticable valve ticking.
