I know the rev-up and possible the non-revup motor has two access windows in the timing cover that can be removed to inspect/replace the chain tensioner and water pump. I'd start there because removing the entire cover is a time consuming ordeal.

Overfilling the crankcase can actually damage stuff, you're sure it was all oil yes and the color looked correct (not milky white). Just trying to rule out a blown head gasket pumping 5qt of coolant into the crankcase.

Auto,up rev
no water in oil, i have ruled all of that out, i am really starting to think something broke in that chain area, how much does it usually cost to replace that stuff? if i pull all 4 access covers off and start it up i guess i will find out real quick if something is broke in there..... ie tensioner or guides
before i commit to pulling whole cover off this weekend

It's like $500 for a kit that has all the chains, tensioners, guides, water pump. Maybe a tad more.

Still confused on this

OK so I have a 2003 g35 coupe 6mt. I have access through my girls dad to buy off auctions cause he is a dealer. I want to do a full engine build for FI. Now I obviously know I need to same year 2003/04 vq35de, but I want a clear answer on whether I can pull the engine from an automatic? Vqs with lower mileage are more abundant in AT.

You can use a 2003-2006 if they were equipped with a 5AT, a 2003-2004 if they were equipped with a 6MT. Same years apply to the 350Z and M35 if you found an engine from one of them.

Google search "vq35de rev up differences". Should he able to find lots of pictures of the exhaust cam actuators and timing chain cover differences. It's REALLY easy to spot the difference between them.

You CANNOT use the transverse mounted vq35de from a Maxima/Altima.
