Which oil is the best to use while high mileage?

Do not use 5w30.
There is a noticable difference in burning from 5w30 to 10w30.
Stick with your 10w40, but if you're just looking for a better high mileage brand, Castrol Magnatec is great. It's a semi-syn, and I swear I can feel how much smoother the engine is running (I know, I know, it's "in my head"). I've tried lots of different oils from 20/50 conventional to 5w20 synthetics and the 10w30 magnatec is my favorite.
I've got 171k miles and burn about 3/4 of a quart every ~4k miles.

Using Penzoil Platinum 5w-30, use a quart every 5000-5500 miles, just passed 162k miles. Oil consumption has been consistent the past 30k miles I've put on it. Original owner used Mobil1 5w-30.
