Are the PCM and ECU the same thing?

Basically the description. Recently revived my 2006 G35 after being dormant for 9 months. I had to swap the CMP Driver side sensor and get a new battery. Car started up great the first crank! But once I started driving around 2nd-3rd gears (Automatic) it would struggle to shift gears it felt or it was "fluttering." I got the error code P0600 and just trying to differentiate the ECU and the PCM. Trying to DIY this if possible.

U mean the ECM? Ive never heard of a PCM.

The 3 basics are the BCM in the driver side kickpanel. The ECM(also called ECU) behind the glove box. And a CPU which is built into the IPDM in the engine bay.

I got the error code P0600 which said the PCM Powertrain Control Module wasnt communicating properly. But Im just trying to confirm if its a part or not or if its just the ECM and its being labeled differently.

I remember PCM being a term used for the ECU/ECM on GM cars years ago, not sure if it's still common.

There is no PCM on this vehicle, there is a ln ECM for engine function and a TCM for the transmission. You're probably looking up a 3rd party website that's just listing a generic name for the code.

That code means theres a loss of signal between the ECM mounted in the cabin and the TCM mounted inside the transmission. Start by unplugging the transmission harness and inspecting for corrosion/damage. Make sure to unplug the battery first.
