VQ30DD & VQ35DE project

Hi G35 Crew

My son and I inherited a very unloved 2002 V35 with a VQ30D down here in Aus. Unfortunately there was a snapped rod in piston one and after stripping it down today the only good parts left are bolt on accessories crank and heads + 5 remaining pistons. Awesome hole in the side of the block.

Luckily we just picked up a VQ35DE for a couple bucks that has 2 snapped rods but otherwise bottom and top end are good for rebuild but no harness or ecu. Long block VQ35s arnt as in abundance down here as they are in the US as we lived on SR, RBs and 2Js for the last 20 odd years, but i see there is a wealth of experience of VQs in the US.

While i continue trawling thru the threads here i was wondering if anyone has tried any stoking or de-stroking VQ engines with DD/DE combos and had any experience with the direct injection systems?

Were not specifically building it for performance or throwing a spooly boy on it but rather the challenge:

People use the VQ35DE crank to stroke the engine to 3.3L, that's pretty much the extent of what I know about that engine. It did require shorter DE rods because the DD rods had different journal diameter. You should be able to find a build guide for this.

It wouldn't surprise me if you could just bolt the 30DD heads onto the 35DE block. Nissan is pretty sneaky about having massive parts interchange like that.

Personally I would just try to come up with a DE ECM, wiring harness, and fuel system because the DE makes about 70 more brake horsepower.

Thats what I was thinking as even as far back as the L series for the P510 ( bluebird,1600) we used to swap L16/L18/L20 heads and bottom ends around but didnt have EFI to deal with.
