engine smoking N over 1rpm studder

hey there,

i was driving on the highway, going about 130km/h and all of the sudden my car lost engine power and started smoking. Pulled to the side, opened the hood, coolant was really low/empty. no noticeable leaks on driveway... poured coolant in, but didnt help, wouldnt go past one rpm and when i tried to it was puttering wouldnt go faster wanted to shut off. managed to get it home after pulling over couple times too let it cool down, because the coolant i put in wasnt helping...

NEED Help...
all opinions and advice welcome.

Plug in an OBD2 scanner and see what code it's throwing.

If you tach isn't sending the correct signal for engine rpm it's probably your crank sensor that died. It will throw the code P0335 if it's completely failed, but the tach gets it's signal from that sensor so if the tach isn't working then that sensor probably isn't working.

If it does need replacement use only a Genuine Nissan OEM sensor, or a Hitachi sensor (Hitachi is the OEM manufacturer). These cars are well known to not work properly with aftermarket sensors.
