Rear main issue

I need the advice of an experienced mechanic or enthusiast who has built engines. I have my motor on a stand and in the process of doing a rebuild. I had a very bad rear main leak and after removing the old seal I noticed a small groove in the crank. I’m wondering if this is normal. Should I take some fine grit sandpaper and smooth it out a little or will it be okay?

On the snout? Wouldn't be a bad idea to use an emory cloth to smooth it out.
