Stillen: Intake, exhaust, headers ?

Is there anyone who has all three of these parts on their 6mt coupe? I really like the way Stillen focuses on Nissan/Infiniti and seems to have quality parts for the G n Z. As a big "JDM" fan, i usually stay away from US parts, but in this case, i think Stillen just might have what im looking for...

Intake = +5hp (or so, prally just a nice sound)
Exhaust = + 12-15whp (and a mean sound)
Headers = +11.5whp (lots of torque too, +18.5 @ 3800rpms)

TOTAL = + 31.5hp (give or take a few) for about $2200 (+ install)

To me, this seems like a great way for me to get some great HP/TQ gains, great sound, and quality parts for a decent price. Obviously a Turbo or SC will yeild much better results, but im not willing to spend $6000+ at this point...

Any feedback on this?
Anyone with this setup?
Pictures?
Comments?

Thanks in Advance.

My local Nissan dealer is a authorized Stillen reseller and installer. He says the AEM CAI appears to be more popular with his customers than Stillen's. But he says the Stillen stainless cat backs are very good. I'm planning to install the AEM CAI and cat backs as my first two performance mods.

As for headers, I was going to get them, but my Infiniti dealer said that those would void my warranty (while the other mods wouldn't unless my problems were air mass related which he said would be highly unlikely). However, pulleys won't and you can get almost as much HP increase if you switch all the pulleys.

Also if performance is a big concern, consider going to a lightweight racing wheel. The savings in unsprung weight, added to the weight savings from racing pulleys should offset the performance potential you'll miss from staying with the stock exhaust manifold.

Hmmm....thanks for the ideas...pullys and flywheels have never been to high on my list of mods id like to do, but i hear where your coming from. Def dont wanna void any warrantys.

So the exhaust is a must at this point as is an intake (AEM are nice, but i dont really wnat a CAI...just something basic)

you cannot "add up" the mods, that's ricer math.

Your gains will be the sum of all your mods, rarely will you know the impact of one mod because folks tend to mod multiple items at the same time, and/or never dyno stock vs. each mod.

It would be great if you dyno'd now... then after each item.. or at least with a group of mods at the same time.

I cannot say what your gains will be, there will be some for sure though.

When i dyno'd my 03.5 5AT sedan with the stillen air box & dual exhaust, with 350z duct, crawford plenum and TS ECU, I hit 243rwhp on Stillen's dynojet. (rainy day)

After the UR crank Pulley, i pulled a 247 on the same Stillen dynojet... remember, different days and diff weather conditions. (hot day)

A few months later I dyno'd on Church's Dynopack, which reads 10-15% higher and hit 264.3rwhp

I've recently converted the crank fan to an electric fan, installed a racing radiator & 170 degree tstat, and a nitrous system and am getting a new TS reflash. So you see, folks tend to do a lot of work between dyno's and baselines are tough to come by. Just don't expect to hit 300rwhp after 6 mods!

Cheers, ted

Well put Ted. Obv u are a verteran of the perf mod / dyno game.....however, im not all caught up in numbers and prally will never dyno the car (before of after)...i just want to be able to feel it myself. If i hop in my car after and I/E/H upgrade and it feels faaaasssst and is nice an loud, then ill be pumped! If it feels a lil quicker and is a lil louder ill still be pumped...only if i notice no gains in power will i be pissed.

Might not be the most scientific way to appraoch the "mod-game", but its worked for me thus far (my 3rd modded car) and itll surely work in the future. HOWEVER, i agree that the "adding-up" technique i used in my first post in very inaccurate...i was simply showing the "expected" increses VS: a SC or Turbo...

Bottom Line: for $2,000, if it pulls harder and sounds bad-a$$, them im a happy guy.

Well then "tony the tiger", i will add that to my list...i figure that i cant afford the wheels i want (20 inch something, forged, deep dish, etc) so i might as well be FAASSST!

- Intake
- Exhaust
- Cast PLenium

What else should i add to the list? (dont say Turbo or SC)

crawford cats... $500. one of the bigger increases i've 'noticed'.

and think about the jlrperformance crank pulley, or whatever it is. it weighs 2 lbs, claims r&d to be balanced with the vq (not to cause harmonics), and does not underdrive anything, so no need to change belts, $170 shipped, so not bad. i have not tried this, as i'm ok with the ur pulley.

and maybe y-pipe. pro-1, or gruppe-s... they are all the same thing as the fujitsubo. if you look at your stock y-pipe, you'll know why. you may want to leave your headers alone (expensive labor), and not a huge improvement (probably not worth the investment), but those things are just downright ugly.
ts ecu reflash when your done, ($600) and you should be noticeably faster.

intake (preference) ~$200
exhaust (preference) ~$800
plenum (kinetix, crawford, or aps) ~$400 (kinetix has got a sweet looking intake manifold for $700)
crawford cats ~$500
y-pipe (fuji, gruppe-s, pro-1 etc...) ~$250
crank pulley ~$200
ts ecu reflash $600

but when you're done with all of this (almost $4000), you'll wish you would have saved it for f/i!!

Well, Stillen does cater to the Nissan and Infiniti Models, but from what I've seen on the this and other web sites, their customer service is horrible. Also, Stillen does not monitor any of these threads, so they don't defend themselves. I don't know if this is through ignorance, or just an "I don't give a darn attitude". In any case, I do not and I will not ever own a Stillen Product. Just my opinion, and I'm stickin' to it.

BTW, they are a sponsor here, but I have yet to see a post from them.

Just once, I would like to see them come forward to defend themselves from the accusations I made above.

Come Mr. Steve Millen - Prove me wrong!

Lou

Maybe these people had a bad customer service rep. I had a pleasent experience doing business with Stillen!

Anyway, about the exhaust and intake by Stillen. I highly recommend the cat-back exhaust - worth every penny! The intake on the other hand... Well, it would not be so bad if you use the Stillen intake with a Z tube, because the stock intake set-up is goofy as hell. Otherwise, I say go with the AEM CAI (That's what I have!).
