I think the CAI issue is split into two camps: Those who like them and those who feel they contributed nothing positive to performance.

A heat shield around the filter would help, and those metal pipes should be wrapped with heat shielding to avoid as much heat-soak/saturation as possible.

Seems like the consensus is that the OEM airbox with a free-flow drop-in filter and then upgraded intake tract (Z-tube/G-Tube) is a pretty good set-up in terms of power production and cool-air operation.
