Distance on 1 Tank of Fuel
I'm amazed with how far I can go on 1 tank of fuel and how far I travelled after the low fuel (orange) light came on.
I went to the meet in TO this past Sunday. Started out with about 200 kms. , then the trip to TO added another 175. Then came my trip to Chatham area today to meet my new puppy. It turned out to be further than I expected and after I arrived there at the kennels, my gas gauge showed less than 1/4 tank. Spent 2 hrs with the peeps at the kennels and petting my new pup and started home. About 25 kms into the trip home, the little orange low fuel light came on. The gauge needle showed about 2 divisions above empty. So off I went and drove a total of 175 kms with that light on. Amazing
After it had been on for 100 klicks I thought this is gonna be tight. We'll I made it. Still haven't filled her back up yet but I'll be interested in just how much it takes.
The Navi went to the warning screan and stayed when the DTE was about 40 klicks . I must have travelled 100 km after the DTE went to **** (0).
Bottom line is I went 777 km on that tank and still didn't run out. That's about 480 miles on less than 17 Imp. gallons.
Not bad after break-in. Now has 4k on her.
Any one else go long distances on a tank?

Re: Distance on 1 Tank of Fuel
Hi GSM
Did you use cruise & if so what speed was it set at?
Thats fabulous mileage, I'm going to check mine out but I tend to have a heavy foot so I don't think I'll get that kind of result.

Re: Distance on 1 Tank of Fuel
On my recent Texas to Cali road trip, I consistently got 420 miles BEFORE the light came on. Not wanting to chance fate on the desolate roads I had to fill up at the first opportunity by putting just shy of 17 US gallons in her every time. The best octane I could ever find was unfortunately 91.(At home I always use 93) I was getting 26 mpg per tank. Not bad at all in my book.

what the.... I get 403 miles went I drove to L.A....
and that's the best ever...
I can never achieve anything better than 17.5 mpg...
maybe there's something wrong with my engine... >_<

If you got 403 miles to a tank, that's at least 20MPG (if you had to fill up with 20 gallons). More likely you filled with less than 20 gallons so your actually MPG was higher than 20.
To get to 440 miles, I had forgotten my low fuel warning light was on and headed out one Saturday morning to do some chores....on my way home my G started sputtering while taking a left turn, got really worried until I realized it was only gas. The G only took 19.75 gallons, auto shut-off plus one click at the pump.

Re: Distance on 1 Tank of Fuel
You know, driving through LA doesn't count as highway miles...
I managed to hit 27mpg on the way to Vegas, and I usually only get between 14 and 18 in city, so apparently the car is fine, and it's just me.

Re: Distance on 1 Tank of Fuel
I think they fudged some on the gas tank sensor at the dealers.....To cut down on the number of roadside assistance calls....My light comes on ultra early, and I always fill the fukr up....Never added more than 18 gallons to it when I thought I was getting dangerously low....480 miles on a single tank is certainly possible in this car.

its a damned conspiracy mannnnnn!!!!!!
heh but a good way to minimize the calls, you are correct.....i wonder if that has anything to do with the needle moving 1/5th of a tank at random sometimes.

Re: Distance on 1 Tank of Fuel
at 35 lbs in the tires, i averaged 25 mpg (real calculator mileage, not trip computer) at 80-90 mph from AZ to FL
At 30 lbs i average 20-22 mpg in a mix of highway/city driving.
My speed limits here are all 75 so i normally drive at 85-90 mph
8100 miles on my 33 day old G sedan 6MT. BTW that is about 450 miles on a tank (17.5 gallon fillup)
