Well, maybe warranty would cover the damage.
I use Amsoil 0w-30. I need 6 qts because of my oil pan spacer, the G uses 5 for anyone that doesn't know.
Wow, I just realized this thread is like 5548541851 years old.

I switched over to Amsoil full synthetic after only 100 miles on the odometer. My consumption is only 1qt in 7500 miles and I'm almost at 60k. I was considering an oversize pan also for improved contaminant dispersing and cooling. Which one do you have? Was it hard to get it to seal well after you installed the new one?
I was looking at the new stillen one in their new catalog.
The only real reason (in my opinion) to not use synthetic until after about 15k is because the wear metals will be high when the engine is new (and silicon will be high too).

a) licensing costs money and Amsoil doesn't want to have to past that cost on to us.
b) Amsoil uses really high levels of some additives that "supposedly" can damage catalytic converters if large amounts of those additives are deposited inside the converters.
Even if this is the case, you probably have other serious problems if you're burning that much oil and for myself, I have a spare set of converters laying at home just in case

Seriously though, I've never heard of any catalytic converter failures as a direct result of Amsoil usage.
