Re: Something serious from Nismo?

I agree, I don't want the saturation of the aftermarket companys to hit dealers.......it makes it too easy for the masses to acquire what would otherwise be unique/special/rare for the TRUE G enthusiast. Just like those very nice Infiniti 18" wheels, sweet, but everyone has them......so nothing very noticable after thae car has been selling for a couple of years.

Re: Something serious from Nismo?

Your totally right, people with the auto trannys just aren't true enthusiasts...they're just poser enthusiasts, especially sedan owners(don't get me started),who just couldn't afford the extra bucks to buy a coupe with the Brembos......BUT WAIT.........
What happens to your "enthusiast" status when those cheap people buy larger brake kit than your beloved Brembos? Do you then become the poser enthusiast and they become the true hardcore enthusiast or maybe a super enthusiast?
Hard questions to answer when the table turns.

No matter what you put into your car and no matter how ricey it looks, you just can't put an automatic transmission cars and a manual into the same category. To my opinion all those who have a manual transmissions are the purist sports car owners.

Just my two cents.

What about the hard-core racer who lost his left leg? Hmm? If he buys an auto instead of a manual, what would you call him?

I totally agree with you that you can't put an automatic transmission car and a manual into the same category. But I disagree with you comment that AT owners are not true purists. When I bought my 2003 sedan, I had no idea that the US would get a 6MT sedan. I did not know when the coupe was arriving in the states and did not want to wait in line while the dealers gouge coupe prices into BMW range. I bit the bullet and bought the sedan. I do count my self as a true enthusiest. What I got was a sports car that I am still amazed at today. This is a true sports car. I do hate how slow the AT reacts, and also that damn adaptive algorythm. After a transmission and ECM flash, I'm sure the heavier coupes will not be a problem to take. Who will be the true purist when the AWD comes out?

Re: Something serious from Nismo?

well the mere fact that we're all discussing our cars on a forum states that we're all enthusiasts. You don't need to have a fast car or expensive one or a great handling one to be one. It's more of a state of mind.

As far as purity goes...I think AWD will be frowned upon when RWD is an option, simply because you can do things that just aren't possible with AWD. An example I can think of is a Porsche Turbo / GT2. Granted there's about a $70,000 difference in price, but the GT2 would be the choice for this person we will name "the purist." Same reason most sports coupes/sedans are RWD. Here are some of the best driving machines I can think of right now which are only offered in manual.
BMW[M3, M5]
Ferrari [575M, 360 Modena, Enzo...basically all Ferrari's]
Pagani Zonda
Mercedes-benz AMGs
Maseratis
Aston Martins

But when it comes to fun factor...6MT takes 5AT any day of the week

Re: Something serious from Nismo?

If I could have both a 6MT and a 5AT, I would. I would use the 5AT for the work commute, and the 6MT would be for fun! I am enjoying my 5AT though, as the G is my mode of transportation to and from work. Nothing sucks worse than clutching it in bumper to bumper traffic. I know how that feels.

Re: Something serious from Nismo?

I thought mercedes were ALL AT. They havent made an MT in years(as far as I can remember). Also most ferrari's are offered in auto as well as stick as well as the DB7 Aston Martin, and all USDM Maseratis. I'm not trying to start anything just clearing up your post as all these cars have an AUTO option as well as a Manual. In my eyes, both cannot be compared against and its up to the driver to pick what tranny he wants.

Re: Something serious from Nismo?

Honestly ive had my G since the second week they came out... im not watiing any longer to do engine mods. I already got stillens intake and greddy's exaust... Im to hyped up to wait for nismo to entertain me. When something quality comes out on the market, that im assured wont harm my engine then i will get it. Im not waiting for nismo, if they really wanted our bisness they woulda got their act together.... Were all a good bunch of guys who like our cars a great deal it sucks that we may have to kiss warrenty goodbye, but if thats the price then so be it...
