30k maint. @ Infiniti of the Palm Beaches

Hi Everybody!

May I ask for your kind assistance with 30k maintenance options please?
The Service Department of Infiniti of the Palm Beaches faxed me the following pricing information, and I am not sure if I need to accept all these services. I could probably replace wiper inserts myself ...

If possible, please list the numbers (on the left) of procedures that my G really needs … or numbers for the services that are unnecessary.

Thanks in advance for your help!

If you're really super conservative...

1. Change engine oil and filter - Definitely needs to be done
2. Install BG MOA oil conditioner - no
3. Lubricate hinges and locks - should be included in #15 below
4. Inspect and level all fluids - should be included in #15 below
5. Rotate and balance tires - Coupe has directional tires. Tires should be worn out by 30k. Maybe consider new tires?
6. Inspect tires and adjust air pressure - You should do this every Saturday yourself.
7. BG Fuel and air induction service - No
8. Replace air filter - YES!
9. Replace pcv - YES!
10. BG cooling system flush - YES!
11. Service battery - No
12. Inspect breaking system - YES, but should be free
13. Replace wiper inserts - YES!
14. A/C performance test - YES, but should be free

15. 27 point inspection - YES, but should be free

16. Road test vehicle for proper operation - YES, but should be free

17. Exterior wash, wax and interior vacuum - DON'T YOU DARE LET THEM WASH YOUR CAR!

$599.95 - I'm choking, someone help!

Also recommended with inspection 3:

BG Engine oil flush $119.95 - No, never heard of an engine oil flush???
BG Transmission service $139.95 - Not a bad idea

Four wheel alignment $79.95 - Only if needed

Replace platinum spark plugs
4 cyl. $119.95
6 cyl. $169.95 - Not sure. Probably isn't needed this early.

8 cyl. $249.95
One thing I'd add would be the rear differential flush.

Thumbs up

Thank you Guys!
I really appreciate your feedback.

Based on your recommendations, and combing the list of dialer (Infiniti of the Palm Beaches) and Infinity recommended services, I came up with the following instructions that I am planning to give to my Service Department (Please add your comments if you see something wrong/missing):
Replace

Replace engine oil and filter
Replace engine air filter
Replace PVC
Lubricate all locks/hinges
Rotate tires

Inspect/level

Inspect tires and adjust air pressure
Automatic transmission fluid
Axle & suspension parts
Brake lines & cables
Brake calipers, pads, rotors
Cruise control vacuum hoses
Differential oil
Drive shaft boots
Exhaust system
Front suspension ball joints
Fuel lines / connections
Fuel tank vapor vent system hoses
Propeller shaft
Steering gear and linkage
Steering linkage ball joints
Transfer case oil
A/C performance test
Road test vehicle for proper operation

?????????????

BG cooling system flush
A/C performance test
Rear differential flush

PLEASE DO NOT wash/wax/vacuum or abuse my car in any other way!
Thanks again!

That seems like a lot of money for that.

Have you checked out Tire Kingdom or other shops to do it?

Infiniti does not have to do it

Hi,
Why not follow what Infiniti recomends instead of the dealer? You should read the Infiniti Service Manual's Maintenace Guide.

That's what I'll do once my coupe reaches 30K.

PCV valves rarely fail especially at a mere 30K miles. I've had a 86 Accord, 90 CRX Si, 94 Z28, and 96 Maxima. None of them had their PCV valves replaced. All I did was service the PCV. Simply remove it and apply some vacuum to it (ie your lungs). If it operates correctly, don't do anything. If it's slow to react, shoot some penetrating oil in there and clean it out. It's a terribly simple device (cylinder, spring, valve). I wouldn't be surprised if they charge you $15-20 for the valve and $30-40 to install it. You could service it in your driveway in 15 minutes.

Why not change the air filter yourself? There's another $40+ you could save. A filter costs about $5-8 and takes 5 minutes to install.

Like someone said earlier, stick with what's recommended in the manual, not what your dealer is telling you. They're there to make money.

You definately dont need plugs, those are 100,000 miles plugs. And I am convinced that the inspection stuff is just another way to have them charge you more money. If you don't know how to tell when a belt is bad, or brake pads need changing etc then please have them do the entire service, otherwise its something you can do on your own for free.

Platinum plugs, although not great for permance, will last for around 100k miles. See your manual or below. Infiniti Help
