Question Need some advice on UR UnderDrive Pulley installation

I have searched out this entire forum looking for the best/ right way to lock the motor/trans from moving when trying to loosen the bolt on the crankshaft. Some people are saying to put a breaker bar against the ground and turn the motor over (No way will I do this). Does any body have any other ways of doing this? I have heard there is a bolt that you can take out which will allow you to access the fly wheel and grab it but I can't find it. does anybody know about this?

Thanks for pointing that out, but if you read it he did just what I said i will not do. Thier is no way I'm going to put a cheater bar on that bolt and turn over my engine. That's to much of a load to put on your crank all at once.

My advice? Dont do it yourself. I had the dealer do all 3 pulleys (crank, alt, H20 pump) and it cost $180. And guess what? if anything goes wrong, they get to eat it. If you screw it up, you eat it, and you eat it all. This is one mod that can really screw things up. There are crank position sensors and belt tension specs. that need to be correct or you can do some serious damage. If you overtorque the pulley and tweak it, or it comes loose, good bye crank bearings. I have had mine on for almost 2 years and not a single problem and the oil analysis is excellent for bearing wear. $200 or so is nothing compared to the damage you can do. I have installed complete lift kits in 4WD trucks and replaced entire Mopar motors and I didnt touch this one.

Thanks for the advice, did you notice any differances after installing them. Did it effect your CO2 level when you took it in for a state inspection when you changed that pulley on your smop pump? What about the charging system? I was thinking about replacing those other 2 pulley after I get the crank pulley on.

The revs will seem quicker and throttle response is improved too. No negatives at all. Fortunately, I live in a no-smog check county so I dont know about the CO2 level. But the last dyno I did showed the A/F right at 13.2 nice and flat over the RPM range. The dyno guy was amazed that I did not have a ECU reflash or chip to get it that close to optimal. The stock ECU does a pretty good job of compensating for increased flow.

That nice to know, if I can get my car out of the shop maybe I can have this put on. The dealer has had it for over a week just to aline the hood. For some reasons when I open my hood it hit on both fendors, and it's chiooing he paint off now. They don't know why it all the suddon started doing this. The dealer is trying to figure out why also so they can warrenty it.

WHO the hell came up with that idea? OUCH! Talk about an accident waiting to happen! DO NOT DO THAT! Snap-On, Mac and OTC sell an assortment of pulley installation and removal tools. They're specialized for each design, style and application. Most in general enable you to hold the pulley with one tool while you wrench off the nut with another (and they come in various sizes and lengths). Some are clamp type, while others look like big square wrenches which utilize pre-existing bolts / nuts as anchors, or even factory placed slots to hold. I've even since special slip type (one way, like a vise grip) belt tools that will lock the pulley in place, so you can wrench if off.

When it feels impossible or you've just about had it, rest assure there is a tool for the job!

Yeah, use something like a chain wrench. It worked for me, but it's definitely helpful to have a friend available to give you a hand. That bolt is in there pretty tight.

Right on! A man who can search!

I saw your thread (as I do others) and was afraid to mention it. Not sure it is the best method but it works. I didn't think of it on my own. I was desperate in the garage after getting my own a$$ kicked when I was doing it with a buddy. I searched frantically for a solution and found it somewhere. Still took some serious grunting and vein popping. Modders version of child birth.
