Turn on and off your A/C and listen for a difference. Did you pop the hood and try and locate?

Re: Car making Weird Whine Noise

Is your car stick? If so it's your throwout bearing making noise due to friction.. It's normal.

Dude, the power steering pump will whine when it's bad or low on fluid. It's the drive belt accessory on the far left (facing the engine). The reservoir is right there too. Good luck

Is your girlfriend in the car when this is happening? If so, don't worry about it, its completely normal, but I'd still suggest trading her in for a newer model. They don't whine as much.

Haha Balzac!!!

But seriously, my car makes that same noise too....it's like an S/C sound but all my fluids seem to be fine.

Also sometimes when I start my car early in the morning, the 1 to 2 upshift makes a freaking weird sound, like someone threw a rubber ball in the impeller of a huger turbine (*whhoooooomp*) for a second. All these damn weird noises could be nothing, but we gotta settle our little hearts.

Re: Car making Weird Whine Noise

The serious answer is that you are hearing gear whine. Its a byproduct of an aggressively cut gear box and in my opinion, is a very sweet sound! Well, unless they are straight cut, then it becomes tiresome.

If you hear it at all times, don't worry, if it comes and goes, I'm wrong and you're hearing something else.

Re: Car making Weird Whine Noise

You might want to get all your fluids checked. My coupe was making some weird noises also and I took it in under warranty. Turns out that I was reasonable inn my suspicion... my rear diff was almost completely dry!!!!

Re: Car making Weird Whine Noise

I would hear the whine noise....but only when I start my car. I think it's from the air filter. It's very brief when I accelerate as well. I rolled all my windows down and can hear it as I accelerate.

I have the same issues you are having, but I have a manual G35. When I accelerate normal I would hear a winding noise like a supercharger would make. I can hear it through out first, second and third gear. I have issues with my clutch as well. There is a rattling noise somewhere bellow my engine and when I press the clutch in, the noise disappears.

Well This morning I had an appointment for an 11k mile oil change, the weird winding noise and the clutch noises. So i'm at the dealer ship for an hour and half finally got impatient and requested a loaner car. Three hours had passed by and I finally received a call from the service guy regarding the problems with my G. He told me, all the noises your hearing is coming from the transmission and it needs to be replaced. I was very surprised when he had told me the news because believe it or not, I baby the G35. Any ways, I’m happy because I’m getting a new transmission and I get to drive a 2004 G35 sedan loaner for five days. For those that still have funny noises coming from the engine bay, get it in the shop ASAP.
