So are bolt ons a waste of money?

From the sounds of it, you can actually LOSE power from intake, header or exhaust.

That's fine with me I'd rather save up for a turbo for my coupe rather than little "ricer" mods

But on a side note, i know that intakes actually improve gas mileage. Is it the intake itself, or the filter?

Improve? It's just an urban legend that K&N filters improve gas mileage, but it's not what I have experienced. The right headers will yield some gains, depending on brand, year/transmission you have, etc., but the question is whether the $/hp ratio is worth it to you.

Basically yes! Mods are fun and gives you something to talk about.

Suspension mods are good!

Power mods basically are a waste. Performance mods, like suspension, arn't.

I don't think you can sit there and call all power mods a waste of money. You have to figure the cost of the mod versus the power in return.

Can you gain power with certain power mods, yes. However, you cannot expect to yield the same results as a Mustang or some other type of car.

I think it is not a correct statement to call all power mods a "waste of money".

Plenum mods, in my opinion, are not a waste of money. Exhaust mods are not a waste of money. Both of these mods are good for your car. Are you gonna get neck breaking speed out of them? No. This does not make them a waste of money.

^ I agree, calling them a waste of money is only vaild if they made no gains at all. Sure, they don't yield as much as FI, but if you get the right bolt ons, you will see some gains. Personally, the only bolt ons I got was K&N,Z-Tube,Crawford V5 Plenum,UR Crank Pulley, and Greddy SP2. I only spent 1100.00 on those parts and they did yield some power albeit not a large amount, but they are effective parts that yield horsepower, torque and engine efficiency. However, if I did have upwards of 4k for FI i'd have a Vortech under my hood, but for most N/A is the only option.

Waste of money? NO!

You need the plenum, headers and h/f cats BEFORE you go FI IMO. That is... if you choose a S/C.

Here's what headers, plenum and h/f cats will do for you (compare the charts). The red line is me and the blue line is G8tor20. I'm hitting 1.5 psi of boost less than him with the "bolt ons" and both of us had belts that were a little loose.

when i put the Z tube + K&N, my gas mileage went up 2-3 mpg... it was probably mostly the z tube though

it depends on what you expect from the mod and how much you have to spend......if you want the "quick reward" so many of the younger generation demand from everything in life, bolt ons will not satify this need.......FI will, but at a high price......if you do your homework and spend time learning what the mod will do and what it wont.....it will be worth it
