New G35c cutting out at 4500 rpm

Just picked up my new 6MT coupe on Thursday. Drove it home (200miles) on Friday. After getting home, took it out for a drive and had a serious problem. The engine cut out at 4500 rpm's, the Service Engine Soon light came on, the Slip light came on, and the VDC off light came on. Tried disconnecting the battery to reset the computer, but it came back after I reconnected anything. Called the service department and the guy thought the computer was going into default mode and wouldn't let it go past 4500 rpm. I was thinking it was a bad sensor, so I checked the wheel sensor connections and everything under the hood, and everthing looked like it was still connected.
Anyone seen this before or have an idea what is going wrong? I'll find out tomorrow if the local Nissan dealer will look at it, but if not the Infiniti place said they'd have to tow it back (200 miles each way)!

Re: New G35c cutting out at 4500 rpm

The three lights being on sounds similar to the TSB about the brake light switch going bad (the one under the brake pedal). Have not heard this causing the 4,500RPM limit though, so may or not be the same issue.
Let us know what the dealer finds.

Damn...that's disappointing. Don't let it get you down though... even though it doesn't sound like anything I've heard about, I'm sure the dealer can take care of it. Then afterwards you will find lots to enjoy!

Keep us updated....

Re: New G35c cutting out at 4500 rpm

Merlin,
I went poking through the old posts here to see if I could find something similar and found the post you included in your response. I always try to do that before I ask the same stupid question that someone has asked a hundred times before. The thread didn't describe the problem exactly, but it is similar in some ways, so I'm going to recommend that the technician checks the switch, if he doesn't get a good code from the computer.

I appreciate your help, and this is exactly why I posted my question. It is always great to have so many helpful and knowledgeable people to turn to when you have a question.

And besides, it is just fun corresponding with people who have the same interests and are lucky enough to drive such a great car!

When you're that far away from the dealership, how do they work the loaner cars when they tow your car in?

Re: New G35c cutting out at 4500 rpm

Ryoken,
The Infiniti salesman told me that they would arrange a rental car for me, but as luck would have it, I won't be needing it this time.
I dropped the car off at my local Nissan dealership last night. They checked it out this morning and found a missing bolt on the crank position sensor. They put in a new bolt and everything is running fine. Don't know if the bolt was there/loose and fell out on my drive home, or if someone forgot to put it on at the factory and the sensor moved a little after driving. Either way I'm going to pick it up tonight after work.
Hope this ends my experience with warrantee repair work.
