Windows not going up to seal when closing door

After I finished installing a stereo in my car, front speakers and all, I noticed that my windows no longer close the gap about 3/8-1/2" when I close the doors. When I have the doors closed and I close them all the way with the window controls they will open the gap when I go to open the door. When I go to close it they don't go back up. When I leave the car I have been using the key in the door to manually roll up the windows that extra 3/8-1/2". Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks

The dealer may have to "reset" the window controller. I had to have mine done.
Good luck with it.

Try running the window all the way up and all the way down a few times with the door shut (using the interior switches while the car is on). This may help the window controller relearn what its doing.

If you want to do it yourself...drop your door pannel...and you have to pull off the black sticky tape circles covering holes in the metal...in one of those hole you will see a button to reset the windows. Press the button and play with the windows up and down.
If you carry it to the dealer...they will do it for you. (better this way)

Sounds fairly easy.

In one of those holes is a button to reset the windows. Would that be an electrical reset for window motor?

Yes its a motor reset button...but I suggest "Gmachine" carry his car to the dealer because the reset may not be the only solution. (i.e. window adjustment)

Thanks for the help. I take the doors apart this weekend to see if i can reset the windows. Do you know specifically where the botton is on the door?

Don't pull your door panels off!!

. . .unless you want added hassel! If your windows lose memory for the automatical 1/2" drop when the door opens after you unplug your battery, close the door, and hold the switch in the "roll up" position for 5 seconds (or longer). This will re-train the window motor what the full up position is. After that your window should drop down to "unseal" properly when you open your door, AND "seal up" when you close your door. I've had the same thing happen to me after I've done work on my car. Good luck!

edit: I think I read something about this in the shop manual too. . .I'll see if I can find it for you later.
