G35 Oil Change

Does anyone here know where the oil filter is located on this car? I want to change my own oil cause the dealer charges an insane amount of money. Thanks.

Re: G35 Oil Change

First take off the 14 fasteners holding the cover on the underside of the engine-(13 10mm bolts+1 plastic clip). You'll see that the filter is slightly to the rear and to the passenger side of the drain plug. Hope this helps---------

Re: G35 Oil Change

I've also changed my own oil. I've noticed however that some of the local Nissan dealers charge quite a bit less for oil changes and frequently run specials for as low as $25 CDN. I phoned one of them up and they said that as long as the G uses a regular Nissan filter, they'd do it for the same price, even with the extra work of removing the plastic pan. Not sure if they will all do this, but it's worth phoning around the Nissan dealers in your area if you don't want to do your own change.

Ha, Ha.... Actually, I called West End Nissan. $25.95 coupon in the 'Examiner'. Call ahead just to confirm. I spoke to them in September.

Re: G35 Oil Change

my co-worker brought his G35 sedan in for an oil change and Infiniti gave him a loaner G35 Sedan. gave him a nice toy to play with during lunch. He got to do things that he wouldn't do with his own car. shhh hope infiniti doesn't read this.

I think it's worth letting them do the oil change.

On the other hand, I don't like anyone touching my cars. I'll do the work myself.

In fact I did the oil change on the mother in laws camry today. The friggen dealership always puts the filter on so tight. couldn't find the filter grip. By the time I got the damn filter off, my hand was completely cut up by some razor sharp sheet metal to the right.

It's just better to do it yourself.

Re: G35 Oil Change

OvaYahead, Tell them not to use a wrench when tightening. They should know that!!!!!!! --------Gasket contact plus 1/2 to 3/4 turn (without wrench) and lubricate the gasket......no problem
That's why I always do my own; besides how long would it be before they lost all the mounting bolts and plastic clip to the cover?

Re: G35 Oil Change

Yeah no joke! We're not dealing with the MENSA folks. One of my customers has a fleet of full-size Chevy vans and a oil-change contract for the fleet with the local Jiffy Lube. First oil change on brand new van, Jiffy Lube guy puts van in wrong bay meant for cars only, van now has custom roof 3" lower!

Ouch. Your friends a little p'd off I'll bet. Hey man I've got a few stories like that myself having just left the fire department: You've seen some of these huge multimillion dollar ladder trucks that are paid by tax dollars yet, well one brand new one got customized one day by driving out the bay with all the compartment doors UP. That caused a permanent frown on the Chief's face. Makes life kinda interesting sometimes.
