Rough Idle

I have a 2004 g35 sedan a/t with about 22k miles on it. After the most gas shortages here in texas I think I got some bad gas that is causing this rough idle. I looking to buying a fuel system cleaner, which do you recommend or do you recommend something different.

Thanks

Henry M

My apologies for the thread-jacking. I was searching the term "hot idle" and found this. The issue I have is an irregular "knock - tock" sound I hear only at hot idle. It's especially noticeable after a long sustained run on the interstate. I come to a stop and shut down the A/C and sound system, and hear this sound. It's as if somone were hitting an empty coconut with a hammer: tock----tock-tock---tock --tock, etc., with seemingly no pattern. The car is an 04 Sedan with 39k miles and is very well maintained. I've tried different oils and filters (thimble and tall size, different brands) and still get the sound. Absolutely no other indicators of ill health. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hey guys,
I had the same problem recently and tried to get it fixed on many occasions. Now finally they found something that helped the problem quite a bit. My idle isn't like when the car was brand new, but its much, much better than what it was.

I asked them what exactly was the specific problem.

They refered to a TSB where the ECU had to have a whole new operating system loaded into it... Aparently there is a bug in the ECU software.

I had the VDC/Slip light problem but also had a very rough idle. After the dealer replaced the throttle body it's smooth as silk. May have nothing to do with your rough idle but might be worth checking into. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses. This is the sort of thing I'd like to have in hand before I walk into the dealer and have them start feeding me the usual "what are you talking about..." stuff. Before I start digging for the TSB, do you recall it's name or number?

I think it was the Throttle position sensor that goes bad on the throttle body, my dealer seemed to be VERY familiar with it. Good luck
