Excellent post! I plan on following your example today. It would be
great if we could disconnect without going under the hood, like
some sort of switch mounded on/under the dash.

Re: Easy ECU Reset vrs battery disconnect

Just called Nappa. The part was not in stock anywhere in Houston,
but I have it ordered from another city. Should get it tomorrow.
The part number is correct. It costs $12.99

Re: Easy ECU Reset vrs battery disconnect

I found the part at a Napa store here in Portland, OR. It was pretty easy to install, though I spent a lot of time trying to get the car grounding wire, and my grounding kit wire, oriented the right way. The effort was worth it - now all I need to do it life my hood, turn a dial, and my battery disconnects. Sweet! PratG35 - thanks for the idea!

Re: Easy ECU Reset vrs battery disconnect

For the Canadians here, I bought the same battery disconnect at Napa A/parts here in Cambridge: It's described as an "anti theft switch" in their parts book but as a "battery master switch" on the packaging. p/n 782-2218, cost $21.29 before taxes.
Installation fairly easy, but had to fabricate a tubular brass bushing for the new switch neg. post since it was slightly smaller than the original. See pic.
Works great: 1/4 turn on the green **** and the battery is disconnected.
I also opted to angle the new terminal to the passenger side of the battery for convenience.
The battery compartment cover goes back on with no clearance problems, but the actual battery cover door will need a slight trim to sit flush again.

Re: Easy ECU Reset vrs battery disconnect

I angled my new terminal towards the front of the car. It took some time to get the wires run correctly, but I'm able to put the battery cover back on without any obstruction. The cover just clicks into place as it makes contact with the terminal - no mods necessary.
