Re: UNORTHODOX RACING PULLEYS, GOOD, OR BAD?

I have a UR pulley, just have not installed it yet. Is it possible to get our answers from someone higher up than our local service center? Maybe someone from development or research or something like that?

What do you mean. Dan you please point out the harmonic dampener? Thanks

If you are running a high end stereo you will not want pulleys on your car. You will be "underdriving" your alternator and it may not be delivering the voltage and more importantly the current to your amps.

Save your money. Spend $5K and put a set of heads, new cams, and injectors in your car. Might have to wait a while until they are developed for the car, but at least it will have a real performance enhancement.

Re: UNORTHODOX RACING PULLEYS, GOOD, OR BAD?

SixFive, Oneshot was explaining that if you have a high end, high amperage stereo system, you won't want to underdrive your pulleys. This slows them down to a point that may not allow the alternator to deliver enough juice to power your stereo.
A more important issue is whether the stock crank pulley is a harmonic balancer type or not. If it is and you replace it with a non harmonic type, you'll do some long term damage.

gurgenpb,

Here's another picture of the stock harmonic dampener-pully assembly. This picture was taken from the back (or engine) side of the dampener.

If you look closely you can see the unit is made up of three parts. A center hub, a flexible (hard rubber ?) ring and the outer drive pulley section. The flex ring allows for a slight amount of differential rotational movement between the center hub and outer pulley. That, along with the weight of the assembly, helps to control harmonics caused by the crankshaft's torsional vibration.

DAveO

You are the man! Thanks so mych fo rthe info. This is exactly what I (as well as almost all of us desputing installation of these pulleys) suspected. You have confirmed my fears, although it is all good; I never installed them and am sending them back for an exchange for a set of Cusco Sway bars.

Yeah these pulleys seem like possible problems for a couple HP. The flywheel idea seems better but expensive - I saw 800 bucks...I bet it drives great though. Any potential probs with a lightweight flywheel guys and gals? I want a ECU upgrade dammit.

Re: UNORTHODOX RACING PULLEYS, GOOD, OR BAD?

So what's the ruling? Good? Bad? Someone list EXACTLY what one would need to get the pulleys working. If you need belts, etc. Also, anyone in for a group buy? Once I get all of the info I will try to set one up. For those of you who had the dealer install the pulleys, how much did it cost you?

Thanks - Joey Avino

Cool

SizFive, the ecu upgrade is coming in the next several weeks for the sedan (if that's what you have). I am the test sedan for them (technoSquare)

Re: UNORTHODOX RACING PULLEYS, GOOD, OR BAD?

SixFive, the lightweight flywheel (JUN is the one I'm going with- I don't care for the Jim Wolf flywheel) shouldn't present any problems...Some people think that lightweight means fragile, but with JUN's manufacturing and today's materials it should be incredibly durable and reliable...Nissan products lose so much horsepower to the wheels because of the fact that they use such heavy flywheels, but in their defense they do it to be durable...

As far as the UR kit, probably not a good idea...Good exchange I think, the UR for the Cusco bars...
