05 Lower collector install on 03/04 VQ
OK so I was reading in sport Z mag about an install of a lower collector from a Revup engine into an 04 Z. There were gains accross the board as high as 10 WRHP at peak and 10 WRHP at 2K RPM (anywhere from 5 to 9 in between)
The part was $297.00 and can be obtained from your Infiniti or Nissan parts department.
So am I understanding correctly that I can buy a lower collector for an 05, install it in my 03 and get some benefit?
Any other thoughts???

you sure???
gain across the band??
since the 05+ REVUP lower collector design is to boost high end horses with the sacrfice of mid range torque and power (by most dyno plots we have been seeing..)
I would love to see this.. since i have a 04 motor..
godmans

maybe we can wait for Tony from Motordyne to give some suggestions for this one..
do you think if it is possible for you to scan the particular dyno plot? or the paragraph? i am really really curious!

Yeah I saw that as well and posed the same question here:

I then had PM from DaveO-who wrote the article. He stated:
"....the results of the 05 lower collector on Ed's 350Z are not typical. Others have not had similar results...."
(Dave, I hope you don't mind me sharing)
Looking at the results again, it seems the inital dyno numbers are lower than expected (maybe running in "granny-mode" - as the article suggests)?? And therefore the subsequent dyno numbers seem higher - it's all relative.
But, this would warrant more investigation - any volunteers?
I would scan and post the dyno results, but I think you need to see the results in the context of the whole article. To take these one set of results on their own is misleading. I believe Barnes and Noble might carry a copy of SportZ ?

If IM correct, I believe this dyno pull on this Z did make more upper end power.
I know there has been some other dyno runs made on this setup that didn't show very good.
The thing I remember the most about that day is all 4 cars went home running much better.
Now as for Ed's Z His first dyno run had some Pinging and just needed the carbon blown out of it. Again, I remember telling Ed how much better his car sounded after a few pulls. It was a very busy day and doing all the changes on each car took time. My personal opinion is I do not belive the Hi-rev lower plenum to be a good install for the non" rev-up engines. the one thing the magazine can't give you is the sound the VQ'S make at 7200rpms on
a dyno. Sweet music.

The chart in the mag clearly shows significant gains particularly in the lower end with just the 05 lower plenum installed. If they are saying this isn't typical, then they should have done more tests rather than publishing the numbers as people may now be installing the lower plenum expecting similar gains.
Shorter runners and less power until 6,300rpms. All your questions are answered here:
