Almost got into an accident...need help from 6mt

I have a 6mt sedan and currently have 1150 miles. I installed my stillen intake at around 600 miles. Of course, I'm still trying to break-in my car. But after coming back from the track...I got all pumped up. By the way, I did not run my car. At the track, I saw a black s4 running high 13's...and I was wondering what I can do with my car.... But sure enough, I was heading home and met with the black s4 at the toll booth....so I convinced myself to finally run my car at 1150 miles. I was so anxious....anyhow....I took my car to around 5500-6000k rpm....we couldn't really go at it because there was cars in front of us...but I kept up with him. Unfortunately, after the short encounter with the s4 I had to exit. I was cruising in 6th gear at around 60mph....and then I shifted into neutral to slow down to make a turn and shifted into 3rd gear and all of a sudden my car died. My power steering was gone, brake was gone...almost got rear ended. Luckily, I was able to stop to the side and was able to restart my car. I know few people had problems with injen cold air, but I never recall anyone having problems with stillen's....does anyone know what happened? Did I do something wrong? I never had this problem until now then again...I never passed 4000krpm until today. I had the stillen intake on my auto sedan for 4000 miles and never had a problem. It seems like I'm having the same problem as the injen owners...any comments or help will be very helpful. And sorry for the long post.

Thanks
Ryan

P.S. I did a search but it was for injen intake not for stillen.

Think something similar happened to G35Woman, but don't know what they ended up finding at the dealer. She has not posted in a while I don't think but try PMing her. Godd luck and keep us updated.

I thought I read something about having to much junk on the keychain causing this... Something like the keys are to heavy and it screwed up the chip in the key, or something like that. I may be totally wrong...

Thanks guys...

It happened again today. I was doing around 60mph and I shifted into neutral...and sure enough my engine dies out again. But this time I was ready so I just pulled over to the side. This is very scary...especially when you are making a turn and your engine just dies out. I need to find a solution fast. I called stillen and left vm for adam but did not get a call back.

Try putting back the stock intake to see if that takes care of the problem.

Have you done the ECU reset??

If not, try that, then let the engine run for 10-15 minutes for it to learn the lean condition and see if it still does it.

I'm one of the guys that had this problem with the Injen intake. A suggestion I have is...was your A/C on, as I noticed that for me, at 80+mph without A/C, it would stall...with A/C on, it would still stall, but this time at 95+mph. Ultimately, I fixed it by preventing too much cold air from getting to the intake.

Also, the previous writeup about this happening before with an ignition issue was with the keychain being loaded up and their knee hit it and knocked it into the "ACC" position or something like that and it would kill the engine.

Good luck...I know what it's like and hope you find a fix.

Maybe someone with a completely stock 6MT could try the "shifting into Neutral" thing?

Re: Almost got into an accident...need help from 6mt

A stock 6mt will most likely not stall. It's obvious what's happening here more or less. The intake is confusing the engine and lettting it stall. When the car goes into netural the RPM's drop fast and then level off, If they drop too low the engine stalls. With the AC on the rpms are higher and it won't stall. It's got something to do with the amount of air comming in and the ECU most likely. With the amount of computer controlled stuff involved in the engine management, messing with it confuses the crap out of it.

I'm just guessing here and could obviously be wrong. But it seems to me that the stock intake was designed pretty damn good and improving on it is going to be hard to begin with. I would like a nice sounding intake however so someone Fix these problems and let me know.

I have not gotten a CAI yet, but my experience with other mass air cars is turbulence near the MAF will make it crazy. I am guessing at high speeds the air hitting the filter is inducing turbulence that is making the MAF read inaccurately. Just a guess and YMMV

Also, I noticed I do not have the screen cover on my mass air flow sensor; however, I did have the screen on my 2003.5 auto sedan. I don't know if this would make any difference. Does anyone not have the screen on their mass air flow sensor??

OK - I have the Z-intake and shifted to Neutral doing 80MPH on the freeway (with and without the AC on) - NO PROBLEMS.

Good luck to you Injen folks.
