How to find out what your newest mod will do...

I just 're-discovered' a neat app called <a href="http://www.cartestsoftware.com/cartest4.5/">'Car Test'</a>. It's a program that will take specs from a car and then using math and physics data determins how the car will perform. It considers gear ratios, drag, and more along with the usual horse/torque. It may not be as accurate as reality, can't account for tire makeup, track conditions, etc, but it's pretty darn close. At least you will get some idea of what a mod might do. Even if you don't mod, it's fun to play and see how your car might do against another. The link and pics provided is for the DOS version, although there is also a newer Java based one.

Screenshots are
1 - Input screen (please correct my data if needed)
2 - Output screen from stand alone run
3 - A drag race run of my last 3 cars.

Looks like it assumes a very standard and smooth acceleration curve, but other than that it's pretty cool. I wish I could use my GTech Competition Pro to show you what the acceleration curve actually looks like, but alas it thinks my G can run a quarter mile in 11.4 seconds. Yep, can't underestimate the impact of that K&N and grounding kit combination. Nice for fooling stupid people though, I guess.

Can someone give me those exact specs for the 6MT coupe?

Thanks - Joey Avino

This is what I found on it from Infiniti and a few other sites.

And the test run (computer optimized clutch release and shift points). Yes, yes, reality will differ and vary, blah, blah, blah.

JDMan - Here's the curves for the coupe from this program. I used the DOS version, maybe the new Java version has better algorithms for figuring this out, but this is what it said. How far off is it? Would be cool to see how this compares to yours. I sure hope I'm not one of the 'stupid people' being fooled here. I just thought this was a neat program for estimating and for learning about cars & mods. Better than a pen and paper I think. If anybody has a better program or method (besides track testing) please speak up. Thanks gang!

thanks nate
much appreciated.
you most likely took at least 0.2 seconds off everyones 1/4 mile times.
did you imput the START rpm's of 2000 or did the software compute that?
thanks

Re: How to find out what your newest mod will do...

Sorry for taking so long. The software computed the shift points and the RPMs for the clutch dump (also calculated vs slip) from automated multiple tests to determine the most optimum shift points and clutch release. I've read elsewhere from people who have done real life tests and came up with 3000-3500 values though for dumping the clutch.

By the way, I was able to revalidate the gear ratios with another central <a href="http://www.infinitihelp.com/Infiniti/Models/G35%20Coupe/Specifications.htm">source</a>.
