Its not that hard, just stick the box somewhere, and run 2 hoses.

i was thinking that as well. my hesitation was that running the hoses too far would lead to problems.

The length of the hose won't change anything.

wow...gorgeous engine bay, bro. looks like you have ALOT going on underneath there!!

see, thing is, i f'd up by getting the vertical can. even still, i did not consider putting it directly behind the radiator. i will give that a shot and see how it works out.

thanks alot for the input guys!

From what I've read, the VQ's have no need for an oil catch can. They just don't dump enough oil back into intake manifold unlike other motors like the GM LS-V8s, Ford Modular V8s, and some Honda/Toyota motors.

Dave,

I am pleased to read this. However, what is enough? Is there a certain amount which becomes detrimental to the engine and short of that, it's okay?

Well, let's just say if you road race or auto-x the car (ie lots of hard corners) and you burn oil in the process and/or get a stumble and puff of black smoke during these manuvers, then chances are an oil catch can would help out. Cars like GM's LS series and LT1 small blocks have very small valve covers and under high g loads, the oil in the rocker valley pools and gets sucked up by the PCV system and ingested by the engine. This isn't a good thing especially if the car is burning through 1/2 to 1 quart of oil an event. Many Honda B series motors, especially VTEC varients, have the same issue thanks to a very small/shallow valve cover. The VQ's on the other hand seem to have decently large valve covers and I've never heard of VQs burning oil during road race events. The VQ, by design, does get some oil blow by through the PCV system and into the intake manifold. However, the amount is miniscal. I've read lots of posts in here about the shock of finding some oil and residue in the lower intake manifold. It's fine and most engines do this.

Oil catch cans are very functional pieces assuming the motor in question can really use it, otherwise it's just some underhood eye candy.
