stay out of oakland leuibawski! j.k that sucks man. i guess they think they push the oaklandites around. (i lived by oakland for a bit, most of the people there didn't seem like the suing kind). you should prove them wrong.

The OEM filter is not bad, but there are much better for half the price. I have used nothing but the Purolator PureOne PL14610 on my sedan for 63K miles. IMO, its the best filter you can buy and I have cut most brands open to see what makes them tick. BTW, Nissan CANNOT deny warantee coverage due to aftermarket filtration unless they can prove it was the cause of oil starvation etc. The Magnuson Moss act says so. Get a lawyer.
"Tie-In Sales" Provisions
Generally, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty. The following are examples of prohibited tie-in sales provisions.
"In order to keep your new Plenum Brand Vacuum Cleaner warranty in effect, you must use genuine Plenum Brand Filter Bags. Failure to have scheduled maintenance performed, at your expense, by the Great American Maintenance Company, Inc., voids this warranty."

Thanks for the links.
In regards to my specific case, I have spoken with Infiniti Corporate and they are much better do deal with. In fact I think Oakland Infiniti is just stupid - the 2003 G35 Service Manual's specifically states that Genuine Nissan or "equivalent" oil filters are ok. Here's some pics. I have also included the spark plug removal, because I think it is utterly ridiculous that the tech did not make the effort to remove TEN BOLTS (the passenger side sparkplugs can be accessed w/o removing the intake) and blamed his laziness on "bad torquing of the bolts".

One thing to remember is the Dealer is very protected by your states franchise laws [hard to take their franchise away.....PERIOD], therefore they get to chose their own customers and can refuse to work on any car they wish.
Having never worked for a dealer but having to get warranty services [my personal Q45] thru the 100k extended warranty, I learned to always make it EASY for them to help me and became very frienly with the service managers and Sales Managers over the 7 years I had to deal with them.
Spending lots of money at one place and even buying a few bottles of good wine in the process.

I absolutely agree. I don't expect the dealer to want or need my warranty work and respect their rights to turn me away.
However as a respresentative of Infiniti NA I would not look very highly upon a dealership that would turn an Infiniti customer away. As any retailer knows, no product line is perfect, but if you are making profit from that particular product line, it is in your best interests to stand behind the product line. Oakland Infiniti's treatment of me is basically like Dell computer telling you to "get lost" after you purchased a computer from them and are in need of some after-sales support.
Furthermore, all respect was lost for Infiniti of Oakland not as a result of their unwillingness to perform warranty work, but because they MISLED me about the status of my warranty with Infiniti NA (either intentionally or unintentionnally) and the fact that they MIS-DIAGNOSED the problem with my vehicle. As Infiniti Corporate stated, a leak-down and compression test is a "standard diagnostic procedure" which Oakland Infiniti REFUSED TO PERFORM.

Hey guy, to follow up on Oakland Infinity dealer, I bought an 05 g35 6mt from them. The finance guy also MISLED me on the warranty.
It was late in the day (7PM on a sunday), and after many visit to local infinity dealers. They agreed to sell me the car close to "dealer invoice" (after some hardball negotiation). However the negotiation tired me out to the point that I didn't remember that g35 has 4y bumper-to-bumper, and 6 years on powertrain.
The finance guy said that the whole car has a 4 years warranty, period!. I specifically asked him about the powertrain warranty, and long behold, the guy said "4 year everything".
Intending to drive my car hard, and no FI mod, I ended up getting the 7year 80k mile bumper-to-bumper extended warranty for $1500.
In the end, i did not loose too much because i got almost "dealer invoice" price on the car. That is pretty good for a g35 6mt coupe in Califonia. However, I'm still **** thay they lied to get a few more buck (which isn't that big of a suprise for dealer personel)

I cant say anything bad about Oakland Infiniti. If you guys remember, they replaced my VQ, when Infiniti of Marin tried to tell me i abused my G. Those guys were way cool very professional.
I am not doubting you, but its hard for me to believe from my experience, they are treating you like this. Maybe they just swore they would never do another engine swap after mine, hehe, it was a major PITA. Anyways, put it back to stock and put a stock oil filter on it, and take it to another dealership. Id rather have a dealership that is willing to do the work, do the work on my car, rather that try to force someone who doesnt want to,...you know what i mean. Anyways, good luck sir....
