what grade do you use?

This is what AMSoil recommends for our car:

Engine Oil
Grade 1......API*
Series 2000 Synthetic 0W-30 Motor Oil
Synthetic 5W-40 European Engine Oil
SAE 10W-40 Synthetic High Performance Motor Oil
SAE 5W-30 XL Synthetic Motor Oil

Grade 3......SL
Above 0°F......10W-30, 10W-40
All Temps......5W-30[1]

Sure enough, I don't want to use them (bold text) since they'll either be too thick or too thin.

Series 2000 = too thin, 35K interval
Synthetic 5W-40 European Engine Oil - uhhh not on our manual
SAE 10W-40 Synthetic High Performance Motor Oil - Too thick, 25K interval
SAE 5W-30 XL Synthetic Motor Oil - Too short, only 7.5K interval of which I'd only be changing every 4-5K miles.

I'm looking for something like that of 25K miles interval where I can change them out every 12.5K (half its cycle) and still be safe.

They do have the ATM Full Synthetic 10W-30 (25K interval) which in theory, SHOULD be okay for our cars. I wonder why it's not on there.

What grade are you using (AMSoil or Royal Purple users)? What are your feedbacks?

Thanks a lot.

I use amsoil 5w-30 change every 4-5k miles. Used it on my previous 03 G for 30k miles (engine ran like a beast) and now for over 10k on my new one.

I've used Amsoil 5W30, Mobile1 5W30, and most recently Royal Purple 5W30... I'm going to use Amsoil from now on. I'm not a rep or distributor and don’t have any technical data to warrant my feeling that the car feels, sounds and seems to run better with it.

To simply answer your question - 5W30. BTW I change at every manufacture recommended interval

I've worked with engine oils for the last 3 years. In my oppinion, stick with what Infiniti recommends, and thats 5w30.

If you have a warranty, your going to get hassled for using some exotic blend oils that wasn't designed specifically for your vehicle. 99% of new imports/domestics will either use 5w30 or 5w20 nowadays on cars. Theres a reason why, the oils aren't as thick to lower emissions, increase fuel economy (because the crankshaft has less resistance due to thinner oils), increased efficiency in cooling systems has also led to thinner weight oils.

It doesn't matter what an "oil" manufacturer claims. If you go 25,000 miles without an oil change, its safe to say your dealership is not going to be jumping for joy when you return complaining of problems.

Stick with the 3,000 miles industy standard. I understand you will get "oil gods" telling u thats way too soon, blah blah blah. They'll probably go into great detail on how the oil doesnt theoretically break down, and even try to prove it with lab tests. But try explaining to the dealership thats why you didn't do your oil change.

AMSOIL XL 5w30 is perfectly fine for use, and don't change it past 5,000 miles. I mean, think of it this way. Are you honestly that poor you can't give your car 15 minutes at a quick-lube place every few months for an oil change?

What pisses me off about some people is that they drive all these fancy high end luxury cars, and they ****ing use the wal-mart branded oils cause they are so cheap. You have a $40,000 luxury car, ****ing use some decent oils, its not hard and your car doesn't ask much of you.

It's not even like the oil changes cost that much, and TRUST ME. An oil change every 3,000 miles will keep a LOT of problems away. You'd be so surprised to see Toyotas with 150,000 miles on the engines with NO LEAKS whatsoever. Again, product of oil changes done on time and with proper oils.

BTW, Royal Purple 5w30 is also fine.

If you do your oil changes every 3,000 miles or somewhat close to it, I can guarantee you it will never leak if you drive it properly.

And DO NOT by all means, DO NOT switch back and forth with synthetics.

If your going to use synthetics, stick with it. Don't switch back and forth. You'll regret it.

RP sludges up way to easy. see bobistheoilguy.com for more info.

Today's oils you can switch back and forth if needed. It will have no adverse effects on the engine.

thanks guys,

I'm currently using AMSoil 5w-30 grade (25K type) of which I plan to take it about 7.5K-10K/interval.

I'll do some test to see

btw, 3K is a myth/overkill considering that my brand new IS250 is recommend 5K/interval from the Lexus dealer by Sythetic Blends. I believe that Lexus knows what they're doing as I see their cars running 200K+ miles without any problems.

Thanks again.

Keep the feedbacks comming.

ATL, you will be fine. I ran Amsoil 5w30 for 6k even when I race with no problems. It even could have gone much longer after blackstone tests.

Acura also does 7500-8k now intervals with sythetic blends from the factory as well as dealer full synthetic to blends.

0W30 would probably work fine. As the oil is only a 0W when it's cold.

Strange... My last 4 oil changes were AmsOil, Mobile 1, Royal Purple, and back to AmsOil a week ago... that's over 11,000 miles and I've had no problems... Should I be expecting something devastating to happen?

BTW, I plan to stick to AmsOil – but not because I’m afraid of switching… IMO it out performs the others I’ve tried.

Over the last 308,000 miles and 16 years my 90 Q has mostly seen 10w30 for the first 50k, dealer valvoline, then Mobil 1 syn, the back to valvoline at 250k, at 300k I switched to 10w40 valvoline.

Never seen more than a quart low in any 90 day/3750 mile change interval.

82 oil changes was probably more important than the brand or viscosity.

Even the Mobil 1 was not stretched beyond 90 days some as short as every 4 weeks when I was travelling 1200 miles per week consistently.

I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance Synthetic 5w-30 with a 15k interval. 6 quarts for around $30 at Walmart.

Oh btw, I only got 5w-30 because they didn't have anymore 10w-30.
